FD Down the Drain

Yeah I was really into getting a FD but looks like plans have changed for me. I first had around 14 to spend on the car and another 6 for matinence repairs. That was all good and dandy cause you guys said that was enough, but anyways not everything stays the same.
My father had a stroke late last night. He has lost the movement in his right arm and leg and his speech is scrambled due to expressive dysphasia. I am now using that 6k as an emergency fund to help my mom pay for anything that she may need since my dad will be out of work. I pray to god he gets better because he is the one that inspired me to get into cars in the first place and taught me everything.
Anyways now I only have 14k to get a car. I am still interested in getting an FD but I don't know if that will be enough because I have wound some for 12k with decent mileage and in very good condition, but I don't think 2k is enough to cover for expenses. I am on leave from work for the family emergency so the cash flow won't be as steady as it was before. if anything now I may only be getting what the minumum wage worker gets.
I really wanted a car that was very quick, agile, and very responsive on the road. You see I use to run some autocross with me father, but never any drag really, that was his job. I am not looking for high horsepower numbers or high triple digits on the freeway, but I am looking for soemthing I can drive. I only drive about 5 miles a day if even. I am meticulous on matinence and change the oil every 2k on our cars, or after any long distance trips. Gas wouldn't really but me unless it averaged below 15. I don't plan on driving more than the average 10k per year. My family has a excellent background in various types of cars from a 68 440 charger to a Eclipse GSX and so on.
So what do you think? Should I skip out on the opportunity of owning an Rx7 Fd? Or will I be able to support the car and maintain it with such a low wage and 14k for the car and whatever may happen? Is the experience of a rotary and twin turbo worth it? My other choice was to just settle with a VR4. Do you think it can be done and pulled off? Would you do it? Or are they too much of a hassle that it isn't even enjoyable anymore?
I was suppose to test drive one this weekend too, but plans have changed. Life sucks sometimes huh? I will probably be in the hospital most of the time but I will try and check in as much as I can because the hospital has a free internet connection.
Anyways Thanks for all the help you guys have given me so far, and any opinions and are gladly accepted.

hey man sorry to hear about your dad, hope he gets better.
I wouldn't buy a VR-4, they are big, heavy, and mitsubishi doesn't have the best reputation engine-wise... cool cars, just doesn't seem like a track car to me

Thanks guys. My friend has a NA supra and he knows soemone that can get me wone for 14. They are good reliable cars and all, and later on I can do the 6 speed TT swap, but Idon't know if it'll be the same as the FD. I heard those FD's handle like they are on rails, almost uncpompairable to anything else, or Would you go with a Supra, cause I could slap in the 2JZGTE on for cheap anyways cause my uncle owns a toyota performance shop. By the way my dad has stabilized, so that is good. But what do you think?

do it. just realise that the supra and rx7 (or rather their owners) are mortal enemies. consider the supra to be the darkside...

Turbo FC or even a nice turbo FB (1st gen) project. You can really do some shit with an FB and $14k :) That's my dream 7.

its not the end...just put what u have into a nice savings account or something untill things work out. or shit yeah u could get a super clean tII and do just about anything u want to it. dont give up so easy and think about another car (unless its another 7 muahaha)...if u want it u can have it, maybe not tomorrow, but things will get better. it would be beter to wait then get some other car and start all over again someday with the saving. dont know about u but i dont make too much more than 14k in a year.. :crying: so thats a ton to me.
<--poorest fd owner on the planet, i bet.
good luck with everything

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I might test drive an fd when everythign settles down. So as it rests now I have around 14k for sure and that is about it. So if I don get one, the most I'll have is maybe 16k, but I won't having any money left for repairs. I have another car I can use in the meanwhile but having an Rx7 just sitting there till Iget money to fix it if it does break down would kill me. Imagine having a sportscar sitting in your drive way that you couldn't already drive... Isort have the feeling already with my dads charger, but that is a different story. anyways that's for all the help, as far as it goes it is either Rx7 or a supra, the thing is that the 2jz's are just so much more reliable, but the car itself is nowhere as prestige. Thanks

do us a ll a favor and just LOOK into a turboII. u probably wouldnt regret it. and for the love of jeebus stop the supra nonsense. u do have enough for the car....repair $...good idea, but u could still do it. i myself, if something were to break down tomorrow, it would be all aboard the fucked train for me. i cant cover anything now...haha. but for that $ u could find 1 in good shape and just take care of it really well and since u will have it all paid u can save again for the repair fund...its a gamble but shit u`d still be in a better situation than myself. just hope nothing goes wrong untill u get some saved. take ur time n find 1 in good shape and it u shouldnt have a problem, but of course theres always is a chance.

well I have a TII that I can't drive sitting at the shop waiting to be able to afford a rebuild, plus my NA sitting in the street that doesn't run either... so I have 2 sports cars just sitting that I can't drive....
oh yea, and my $500 truck I just bought overheated tonight and I think it cracked the head gasket. I won't know til monday when the shop opens though. so that means the 3rd engine that will have gone out on me, and not even a rotary this time!

you may laugh, but if you want reliability and a car that handles like none other, go with a Miata and do a nice T28 or T3 setup. on stock internals you can get into the high 11's to mid 12's. you can pick up a nice 95 with hardtop for $5-7k and drop another $6k into it and call it a day and beat up 80% of the cars on the road. or you can always find one already modded for around $10k. most Miata owners take very good care of the cars they drive. and with very minor suspension work, they pull over 1g.

I heard about those miatas lol, but they just aren't for me. I'll check out one of those boosted Fc's, I have always been a fan, but I have always liked the sape of the FD. You really think I can pull it off with only 14k tops? Anyways Thanks for all the help and support, and I'll get back to you guys on what's going on later.

u have enough for the car. usually u have to shop around to even find 1 really nice. even if u wanted to keep saving, start looking NOW because chances r u wont find it in a day. take ur time though! u seem pretty excited n all so dont jump on 1 right away look around.
