I have that exact same problem with my dodge shadow. What my mecahnci buddy told me is that is could be a cracked wire that is touching and not touching causing intermittent power to the ignition system. Dont make my mistake and try and wire the dist to the battery. I fried the entire computer and i mean open flames fried. Any ways just crack open the plastic tubing around the harness and trace the live wires to the ignition system and look for a cracked or severed wire. splice it then it should run like a charm.

"quick message" --my ass! ok ill try to make this as unabrv8ted as poosible, but it'll be long.
when i bought the car in february, it ran fine for about 2 weeks. then it started to skip/sputter randomly... then as soon as it got warm, then the hotter it got the worse it skipped. along with THAT problem, a small tear in my flex pipe exagerated the sound of the misfire and made my car sound like a gaddamn space ship coming down the street! anyway i took it to the used car idiots (dealer i bought it from) they told me the "distributor was bad", they ordered a new one and replaced it 5 days later.that day coming home down the highway it got warm/hot, i got in to town, the cars skipping like a bitch. i called them back they said bring it up, i did, they told me the next day "the distributors bad"--wtf? they ordered a new one (reman actually like the first) 5 days later (last friday)they put it in. he told me to test drive it..i did, it had some skip but not as bad. i got back there, told him about it still skipping-- he said "bring it up monday i'll put a different guy on it" so i drove home, a 20 minute ride, played my messages as soon as i walked in the door, and got "celicas done come get it"--wtf? theyre closed by now so i called from work saturday morning. he said a wire was loose after they replaced the distributor--come get it. got it sunday morning. and it ran great, not 1 skip/studder..until.. wednesday im driving home from work, 45mph, not being rough on it at all. the car just turns off, check engine light on. pulled over, checked it out, this is what i got:
-no leaks under the car
-no irregular smell
-engine wasnt too hot yet
-no obvious breaks(cap,wire,belt)
-NOT getting a spark
-fuses all appear good
-all other electrical works
-code 12 __"distributor circuit" wtf?
now yup i called back, the guy didnt seem too surprised or annoyed to hear from me (strange).he said "bring it up" but guess what, the rear main on his tow truck's shot and its off the road. $75 to tow it that far, guess I'LL have to this weekend.wtf?
so heres what i think, either they're just dumb, or they know something they're not telling me. the cars warranty has passed, but this problem is the same one they been messing with since week 2. so its covered as far as im concerned! maybe: coincidence the coil died? coincidence the timing belt snapped?
wow thats long..any ideas??-- i mean come on wtf?

cars running good, i only got it up to 85 or so but it APPEARS to be ok. i would guess that it being a remanned distrib, the co. that rebuilt it just rebuilt the pickup or something like that; probably the bearings/shaft had...who knows..maybe 200k+ miles on it. i think the bearings locked up and the shaft snapped. just a guess
