Has anuone tried removing theit rear asingaway tire carrier? I live in Houston TX and people just love to hit that thing, my insurance went up twice already, because i seem to file a claim for the rear window and the tailgate every fer months. How ugly would it be without one. I am trying to get some input from others, on any problems i might run int on any good ideas. Also would it be possible for me to simpy remove the carrier, and replace the gate with one from a 98+.

indepent4x.com make these (I don't see them on the website anymore, but I'm sure Matt could make you one).
this will keep folks off your bumper and rear tire!

I was thinking abouth that, and im sure i can get one made here in town, fairly cheap. One thing though, the last time someone hit me, it was right in the middle of the spare, beuse the left an imprint, I also got the guy on video, because i have a back-up camera mounted in the bumper, and when the alarm is set, that thing records up to two hours of low-res footage. i got the guys licence plate number from the tape, and his insurance paid for the last one.

While it wasn't the reason I bought the truck; I don't mind the tire back there.
It does bug me though when I have to back up in tight spaces, and/or if someone's backing out of their spot.
I try to back into my spots and back into a place where no-one can park behind me.

I removed mine for a while, it leaves visible holes on the side of the truck though. It looks a little diffrent but not too bad...

I have no problem backing up with it on either, thats what the side mirrors are for. I really like, it is better than haveing the spare in the back taking up room, or one of those darn under car mounted ones.

When I had the 91 Rodeo painted recently, I removed the tire rack. It cost a little extra but to me it was worth it. It looks alot cleaner now.
