Hi,
Sorry for this 'begging' thread, but does anyone know what Tamiya's next 1:24 car will be? Well next 'street' car anyway.
Cheers

If Tamiya is planning on releasing any 1:24 car kits in the near future, I'm sure we'll hear about it at the upcoming Shizuoka Hobby Show, May 12-15. I don't think we'll see any new road cars from Tamiya, but we might get a few re-issues of older kits.

I thought the Porsche 911 Turbo was the next new street car:

Humm and it's not even a rerelease. What does Tamiya thinking ? They don't have any other idea than a 17 years old cars ?

It's a classic, and I am sure it will be infinitely better than the Fujimi's. Hopefully the transkits will follow.

We have the Enzo, we have the Carrera GT.
The next logical choice would be the McLaren Mercedes SLR. The car didn't do much for me in pictures, but wow...in person it changed my mind immediately. It's that cool.
Never know w/Tamiya though. I really hope they update the 360 Modena to an F430. But I know enough to never, ever expect anything from them  .

Except that being a McLaren, Tamiya isn't likely to mange to get licensing for it. If they did could swing the licensing from McLaren, I'd certainly be a hell of a lot more interested in an F1! Wish I could say the SLR did something for me, but even after seeing it in person, it still doesn't. I have my doubts about seeing this one in plastic....
The unannounced kit I expect from Tamiya this year is last years BAR Honda (in 1/20, of course). I cannot imagine them not making that kit.

I don't understand why there is a perceived issue between Tamiya and McLaren. Other model companies are releasing modern McLarens without any trouble. :dunno:
I'd guess the next Tamiya 1/20th F1 will be a Toyota, especially if they continue to be successful this year. Toyota seem to be one of the few companies to understand the benefits of seeing their cars in scale as opposed to making a few bucks from licensing.

I don't think theres an issue with Mclaren and Tamiya, I think its between BMW and Mclaren. Apparently BMW were pretty pissed when Mclaren teamed up with Mercedes and have been pretty bitchy about the license. Hence no Mclaren F1 model (nothing recent anyway).
I still have hope for a Tamiya F1 though, along with the Original Star Wars on DVD and England to win the World cup again :naughty:

BMW would only be a problem with the F1, not the SLR or any Formula One subjects.
Anyway it is not a big issue, Tamiya, McLaren and Mercedes gave us the MP4/13 several years ago and I still haven't found time to built one!

I can only echo Bob's sentiments. Please, a Ferrari 550/575 would be a really nice treat.
Although a McLaren F1 would be really nice too. If either kit were to be produced, I'd buy at the very least, two of them.

maybe this porsche turbo is a good sign.
maybe after this one, they'll make a 993 turbo as well (hint hint... if you're out there reading this)
on a related note, does anyone know if the revell kit number 07300 is a 993?
(i still haven't been able to locate an italeri kit if you haven't guessed)
i've only ever seen it listed in words and numbers and have never seen on 'in the flesh'.

The last classic sports car kit Tamiya did was the Lotus Europa in 1998.
It's time to continue that series of kits, guys. You supercar guys had your turn, and you sports racer and rally guys had yours, it's the classic sports car guys' turn.
And we demand a Triumph TR6 or GT-6, Austin-Healey 3000 MkII, or (dare we dream) a Maserati Mistral or Ghibli!

The relationship between Tamiya and McLaren soured after their exclusive contact didn't work out. Tamiya had an exclusive plastic model licensing with the McLaren team around the time the 1/12 MP4/6 was issued. After that, Tamiya constantly released the McLaren formula one kits, but McLaren stopped winning. The sales of plastic models keep falling, and Tamiya and McLaren closed the deal. Since then, McLaren related kits are only reissued by short term basis.
That's not the end of the story. Today's F1 licensing goes through greedy lawyers, and sometimes the licensing fees "that they ask" are outrageously expensive for a small market like plastic models.
As for this year's Shizuoka, from what I hear so far, there won't be any new car kit announcement from Tamiya. But as for the Mercedes SLR, Tamiya rep told me in person that there wouldn't be any licensing problem with Mercedes. If they get the green light from the boss, they would certainly make it. The problem is whether they think enough of us would buy the kit or not.
Also, rumor says that there will be an attractive subject that has been forgotten for years that will certainly make more than a handful of sports car fans go crazy. It's not from Tamiya, but better than no new kit.

It's a shame most are wishing for Tamiya Car kits. A company such as Tamiya are respected, but if the market isn't there and they cannot make enough money due to license agreements etc, then most of these wished for kits will never been boxed into a plastic model.
But still, I wish for Aston Martin and Classic sports cars from Tamiya as well.. Keep looking on ebay for the Morgan 4.4, but did manage to snag a classic Jaguar the other day..

I'm with you on the first two but the third one? Nooooooooooo!!!!
That sight would be more painful than a photoetch part trapped in the bell-end!
Being a Scotsman who's glad he was born at the time of England's 'decidedly dodgy' world cup win I have to say I couldn't stand you lot winning it again. For the last 40 years your nations 'football commentators(!)' have kept going on and on and on and on about it and it's a pain in the arse. Not the fact you won it but the fact your commentators go on about it as if it was the biggest feat for mankind since the wheel!
I have to say though, I love it when you get put out of competitions - just when you all actually believe you're gonna win it! Penalties anyone?

Excellent - a Scotsman talking about football - like an eskimo talking about sunbathing!
Nothing like the Scot's bitter attitude towards the english, especially the football! Jealousy is a shocking trait!
The best part is all the Scottish commentators who have to compliment the english game!!
(All meant in good humour!!!)

I'm pretty sure it's because of licensing issues/costs that the Bentleys weren't made.
Why would a Japanese mfg. do a Corvette? The older ones they did NEVER look correct. Everyone around here loves to knock Revell into the dirt for any reason possible, but Revell does an excellent job on Corvettes (both full detail and curbside), and they have a C6 almost ready to hit the shelves. At least in the US, it would be pretty stupid to see a $50 Japanese Corvette kit vs. a $15 Revell version that's going to be an excellent kit. A Japanese Corvette kit? :screwy:
