just a question, but do you guys fall into the same category as these guys he is complaining about (ricer)?
American cars aren't imports in canada, because about half of all 'american' vehicles are made in Canada. For example, GM has 2 factories in Ontario, 2 in America (i forget the exact location), and one in Mexico.
Think before you post please.

Hate to break it to you but every Honda for example isnt imported, there are plants here in the united states, there are 4 in Ohio. Therefore based on your ideas Honda is a domestic car, either that or GM would have to be an import if it isnt made solely in the US. If we want to get really technical about it, any car made by honda in the US originates in the US and therefore is domestic, any GM car made in canada or mexico would be domestic there, but if it is brought into the US for sale then it is an import. Think before you post please.

But it's still a honda pos. When i say American it means designed in america, with roots in america.
Honda has no roots in america. Up until that horrible movie, honda was laughed at by the North American people, then most of us turned into mindless ricers trying to be cool. lol.

I might be wrong but I think honda was doing well in North America before "that movie" came out. And as far back as 1982 the Accord was on Car And Drivers 10 best cars list. Thats a few years before "that movie". Also from 1989-1991 the accord was the best selling car in the US, not too shabby for a car that was laughed at by north america.

The honda accord was, as stated in the article linked above, an economy car. It wasn't selling as a sports car. Japanese imports are pretending to be something that they aren't -> be fast.
I'm fine with Japanese imports being ecomony, fuel milage, cars. That is their place in society. Deal with it.

i wonder if you actually read the article in the link?
any car can be fast, but if you invest the same amounts for cash in an american vehcile, and an import, the american will ALWAYS be fast in the end. In summary, american vehicles are can more effiently (in terms of money) make power. Any one with a mechanical background knows this.
If you want to argue, i can post an entire anaylitical report on the topic, which was approved for distribution by four technical colleges. The summary of the report had shown that American V8 engines can produce more power per modification per displacement than import I4's can. Why else do you think that domestics are switching back to V8's? (GXP, 300, Bonniville)

If you could post that report or a link to one that would be great. I would really be impressed if they took into account every single import and domestic engine and upgraded them with every possible combination of parts because that is the only scientific way to determine that one is better than the other. Just like gravity is a theory because until everything in existance is thrown up and down an infinate number of times it cannt be proved.

WTF?!?!?! pretending to be fast? How can you pretend to be fast? Your either fast or not. A 13 second quartermle is no different in an import then a domestic its still the same amount of time. I think you must have got beaten in a race by an sti or an evo. I can't imagine how mad you'd get in Japan with skylines, silvias, and numerous rx-7's around. I'm not saying imports are the end all sports cars by any means, but you can't deny not that some are quick wether you like them or not.

Dude, your changing the subject now, it was import vs domestic, now you're making it "American V8 vs. Import I4". V8 will always own I4, whether the V8 be american or import. A European V8 will spank an American I4.
Please, shut the fuck up already.

The report in question was very simple. Many engines were tested, but i will only touch on the two closest. All engines were modified from custom CNC parts, all using the same materials and tolerances. The valve train, Cam shafts, intake track, exhaust system and PCM were all modified. A 9psi turbo was applied to both engines.
The ford V8 produced a final output of 815hp, with a power to displacement ratio of 177hp/L.
The toyota I6 produced a final output of 500hp, with a power to displacement ratio of 167hp/L.
Clearly the ford V8 could accept the power increases put on the engine.
And to add to my point -> how many professional race cars (such as NASCARS and F1) use anything but a V8? There is a reason for that.
and also, imports are said to be better for drifting, but if that is so, why is the GTO leading in the world competition?

No, but i know the guy. Good friend of mine.
And i didn't change the topic about anything, the inital article clearly stated that an american engine produces more power per displacement than imports, i have clearly defended my friends article with full truth. Besides that analytical report is extreme proof of that. I'll have to scan it and post it, quite a ricer shoot down. And finally, i don't race sti's or evo's, cuz first i don't race family cars, and second, i don't race imports at all. The sti's and evo's are jokes. Honestly who in their right mind would buy cars that expensive for such a small amount of power? I would rather go buy a Cobra or 'Vette for that price.
also, i stand by the article on the first page which says that there are fast imports such as rx-7 (3rd gen only), skylines, Z's, supras, and vr-4's
Be sure to read the article before posting, i don't like to repeat the topic.

Also there have been hundreds of articles written about how domestics make more than imports. Just depends on who is doing the testing. It's the same arguement that has been going on for years - way before you got your drivers license last week (because you gotta be 15 or 16 years old, young kids are the only ones dumb enough to post this kind of shit). Why else do you think that domestics are switching back to V8's? (GXP, 300, Bonniville)
Domestics do that so that they can get their asses kicked by the japanese. Think about it, Japanese cars usually have 4 or 6 cyls, yet they can still whoop on the American's asses. How, you may ask? By using more technically advanced equipment, i.e. Turbos, and stuff.
Every car has its pros and cons....you get what you pay for. Having more cylinders does not necessarily mean that you are the king. Take Mitsubishi's 4G63 for example. It can push 400+ horsepower on a bone stock bottom end and an untouched cylinder head with just a turbo kit upgrade and a few odds and ends.
The Subaru Impreza (bug-eye) has proved to be one of the "best bang for the buck" cars. You could pick up a descent one at about $15,000 and with a few upgrades, run with some of the faster cars. Yet its still a 4cyl with a boxer engine, with the "symmetrical all wheel drive".
I'm not saying that American cars suck, everybody has their own opinion of which cars they like. Any car can be fast, its what you do to it. Just adding a bodykit, carbon fibre hood, an iron board wing and a coffee can exhaust doesn't mean that it can break into 10's for the 1/4.
However, I do admit that lately all the Japanese cars tend to be towards the fuel economy side instead of a street racing machine....while American cars are built more for speed.
But the point of this post is to tell you that not every Japanese car is a ricer, and that with proper tuning, etc....they could turn out the same. If you insist on arguing, think about the legendary RB26DETT engine....inline 6. With a few simple bolt-ons, that engine will be pushing 600+ hp. And if you're really hardcore, theres a few that push over 1,000 hp.
Just...can we have a peace treaty signed for not arguing whether the Import is more superior or that the Domestics are more superior? Very much appreciated :d

ok. i guess i do get to have some more fun.
No this is not a BS report, it is a report written by 4 technical colleges. It will be posted up in a week or so. No i didn't just get my license, i am actually a 20 year old engineer technologist, the school i graduated from actually did the test (which is how i have the report). Next, you ricers are naive. Last, imports don't make more hp/L, it is purely design. If the Japanese would pull their heads out of their asses and follow Toyota, they could actually make a decently powered engine. (for those of you scratching your heads, the new supra is rumoured to have either the 4.3L V8 from the Lexus' in it, or the new V10 made jointly by Toyota and Yamaha) You see, Japan is good at making bikes and fuel economy cars, so they should either stick to that, or start making V8's like Toyota. Thats the only way they are going to beat the new wave of american muscle. And for the record, generally a Jap car in stock form WILL NOT beat a new V8 powered GXP or 300 (also in stock form). The only way it will, is if it is a DOHC and charged, which if you strapped those goodies on the V8, would by far kill ALL those rice beaters out there.
And also, some people obviously don't understand what it means to drop the thread, as many of us had agreed upon earlier. If anyone would like to reply, start a new thread.

No this is not a BS report, it is a report written by 4 technical colleges. It will be posted up in a week or so.
Like I said, another BS report. For years there's been hundreds (or thousands) of reports that contradict each other. All of a sudden you've stumbled on the only one that's correct because it's being distributed to 4 technical colleges? I have no doubt there are reports saying the exact opposite thing going to 4 other legitimate technical colleges somewhere, it's a big planet (you'll learn what I mean as you grow up and gain some experience). Dream on, dude - you haven't found Nirvana in one report.
Next, you ricers are naive.
If the Japanese would pull their heads out of their asses and follow Toyota
After reading the two quotes above I don't think you should post here claiming to have any kind of knowledge about anything automotive. But if you want to ask us for help on how to make your car run better feel free. j/k - (in case you're still confused Toyota is a Japanese company).
I was going to post a picture of the Honda/McLaren v8, but really, the Japanese don't need to "pull their heads out of their asses and follow Toyota" :cwm27: :grinno: :iceslolan :screwy: :lol2: They do fine with their V8's, V6's and I4's (and a few boxer 4's).

yes domestics and imports can make crazy hp and if you go about it the right way probably spend close to the same amount.
BUT!

ROFLMAO!!! Omega... Try my twelve step program:
1. Settle down.
2. Grow up.
3. Stop starting shit.
4. Stop being ignorant (The Import/Toyota thing blew what little credibility you had)
5. STOP
6. STARTING
7. SHIT
8. JUST
9. ADMIT
10. YOU
11. GOT
12. :owned:
heh, imports should take a cue from Toyota...
You can bitch until you're blue in the face, but two things:
First, this is NOT the forum nor the thread to discuss this in and plenty of people told you just that. Furthermore, NO place is really the place for this discussion. Not on these forums.
Second, nobody gives a shit. Do you really think you're going to change anyone's opinion? It's like fire and water, evolution and creation, republicans and democrats. You honestly expect that because you can ramble off something about some alleged paper that you have yet to display, (after you said it would be a week, two months ago) that everyone's going to suddenly drop eevrything and magically realize that *Gasp* you're absolutely right and what were they EVER thinking?! Nobodys going to change their minds, nobody's going to cave, and people are just going to get pissed off. There's obvious reasons why we don't start these Import vs. Domestic threads. Especially not in the forum where we don't talk about cars.
I don't give a shit who owns an import and who owns a domestic. It DOESNT FUCKING MATTER. Get off your high horse. For the love of god, learn how to debate before you try it. You don't just come in guns shooting, that'll get you nowhere but another pissing contest.

just a question, but do you guys fall into the same category as these guys he is complaining about (ricer)?
American cars aren't imports in canada, because about half of all 'american' vehicles are made in Canada. For example, GM has 2 factories in Ontario, 2 in America (i forget the exact location), and one in Mexico.
Think before you post please.
BMW has a plant in the US, but they're still considered imports. Think before you post, please.
