New Lamborghini model

Automobili Lamborghini SpA will introduce their new model, which eventually will succeed the Diablo in early September.
A decent photo or rendering hasn't been published yet, but according to insiders, the car will combine the looks of the classic Miura with the power of the Diablo GT, while being dressed in an up to date bodywork.
Let's wait and see what comes out of italy this time...

I found this pic of the next gen Diablo on the web. I know it's somewhat disguised, but I really like how it looks (especially the new lines on the front).
Personally, I'm not too thrilled with the current Diablo. It doesn't "move" me the way that the '99 SV did. If this spy shot is any indication, I do look forward to the next one though.

How could the 2001 6.0 VT not move you? first of all 0-60 in 3.4 and i think it looks much better than the 99 model. that is just my personal opinion. the 0-60 time is from motor trend.

I admit it's an awesome car, but there was something about the '99 SV, with the 2 intakes on the roof and the wing (with no huge SV stcker on the sides!) that I really loved.
When I was at the Detroit Auto Show in January, I got up close and personal with the two 6.0s that were there. The woman on stage with the cars was truly awesome, but the cars were just....

I kinda feel the same about the Diablo VT 6.0, it's a stunning car, but it isn't the brutal, powerful looking car like a Countach in it's days.
I really like the Diabo GT styling, awesome looks and power to match them, also the GT is more angular, while the VT 6.0 has a smoother design, I recently saw a 6 liter VT with SVR updates, really awesome ...

The 99 SV does look pretty agressive, but i'm talking about the front fascia, it just looks a lot better to me. but if they put the two air scoops on the top and the huge rear wing, then it would be the baddest car out there.

Mark, I'm a little confused. The red car in that picture is just a Diablo with the side-view mirror moved and a slighlty different front air dam.
JTS, the black protoype in the picture you posted (which is the same car in the pictures on the lambocars.com sight, in the July 26th and August 7th updates) is most likely the L140 (Jalpa replacement), not the L147 (Diablo replacement). For a picture of the L147 (taken in March 2001) go to http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/carnews/carnews_spyshots.xml.

You're trying to say that the car pictured on GangStarr's post and the one pictured on JTS's post are different?

No, no, no. Gang$tarr and Hudson, I think you're both misunderstanding me. The pictures on JTS' and Gang$tarr's posts ARE of the same car, which I believe is the L140 protoype, NOT the L147. For a look at what I believe is the L147 prototype (although Mark disagrees), see the latest issues of both Car & Driver and Automobile magazines. They both show a very aggressive, wilder, more "LAMBORGHINI"-looking car being tested at the Nurburgring in March of 2001. (I had posted a link earlier, but apparently that link no longer works). To find it, go to www.caranddriver.com, click on "New Cars" in the column on the left side of the page, then click on "Lamborghini Diablo (Canto)" under "Spy Shots."

So this latest picture is the V-10(?) L140. It looks a little tame.
.............
I am a little concerned about the high production figures being sought by the the factory. Will this lead to a more 'refined' look to the Lamborghini family of cars to achieve a wider acceptance/mass appeal achive this target? Look at the Ferrari line up...they are elegant/smooth looking -refined. When will we see the next cutting edge (think Countach) Lamborghini?
...........Just waiting............

I'm going to agree to that. The Car and Driver picture is more-likely the Diablo replacement. See the "double-bubble" roofline which would be more along the lines of the "senior" model. I don't believe the large scoops will make production, however.
The pictures posted on this thread are a "junior" model to the L147.

I mean, that is a same-looking car that was seen already in 1999. And as far as I can remember, it was rejected...

Oops, my mistake. Go to www.caranddriver.com, then click on "Car News" in the left-side column (NOT "New Cars," which I mistakenly said earlier). You will then see "Spy Shots" in the middle of the page, towards the right, with "Lamborghini Diablo (Canto)" as the first one. Click on it.

The pictures on that "Diablo Speedway" site are from a couple years ago; they show a much earlier, cruder (less refined version) of what appears to have ended up being the prototype on the Car & Driver site (as of March 2001, anyway).

The Diablo Speedway pictures are reminescent of the Cizeta Moroder V16T of a decade ago. Especially from the A-pillars forward.

Funny, but no matter how hard I try to look at it, that "Canto" in car and driver looks almost every bit as the same as the one seen in 1999. And as we all know, this design was announced to be rejected, for being too, hmm, how to say it...NOT-ITALIAN. So, and if this IS the new replacement, like, what have they been doing over these 3 years? 'Cause it sure looks the same car...

Scumbag,
I doubt any knews will come out of the California show. The L147 is officially being debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-to-late September, with a private viewing for some of the Lamborghini owners clubs at the factory just before that (in early Sept.). Unless someone gets an interview out of Giuseppe Greco or Vitorio DiCapua before that, then I really doubt we'll hear anything before then. (Except, perhaps, for seeing some more spy shots - hopefully)! :frog:

That's what it takes for you to fall in love? You either desperately need a date or you need to open more books/go to more car shows/get out of the house once in a while.
The Murcielago isn't all that spectacular...especially for Lamborghini. I was expecting something a bit more radical. It would seem that these big corporations are putting the pressure on Lamborghini's traditional wild designs and making them more "mainstream" (if that's possible at $200k+).
Chrysler reeled in the designs of the Diablo and we got something less exotic than Gandini had originally thought. Now, VW has given the world this "evolution" on the Diablo design. Is that what you want from Lamborghini? A facelifted Diablo?
Some of the features of this car are interesting, and I like the rear design, but the overall effect seems to be quite bland. If I were in the market for a super-exotic car, this one would NOT be on my short list.

I'm not sure about those "side wings", but Hell yeah!, I can get use to them. Actually, I'm already!
The only that suprised me, was that there were no big side air-intakes, as you could have suggested in the prototype.
Anyway I love this car!:D

I'm quite impressed with it. The only thing that disappoints me is the fact that they claim it's the Diablo's replacment, so they give it a fancy name and stuff when it really just looks like an evolved Diablo. I actually like the name too, anybody care to put up the phonetic spelling?

I know I posted this in another thread, but here goes......!
What an absolute POS! I *hate* this car. If that's what Audi bring to the table, bring back the near-bankrupt Lamborghini! At least they designed something that *looked* aggressive in the original Canto (jet engine). I didn't like it, but I respect it's PASSION.
PASSION. Funny word that. Notably absent from most Audi designs. At best this is a compromised mess, something Toyotah would come up with not an Italian company. Still the designer was responsible for the Audi A2 (and even worked for Skoda I hear). Nuff said.
It doesn't even GO much better. I used to laugh at companies liek Pagiani with their Zonda. They have no heritage, but this Murchilachiogog thing proves that heritage doesn't really make much difference. If it makes no differece, I'll go with the Pagiani - it kicks ass looks wise and take NO prisoners in performance.
I'm sorry, but at best this car is BORING to look at. Lamborghini has lost it's way. To be honest, it has actually upset me so much I can't really talk much more.
Anyone wanna buy a Diablo SV Strosek? I think a change of brand is in order :(
