I just blew the engine on my 91 HF. Being a poor college student I need a fast and cheap solution. My mechanic will swap an engine for 500 and I found an 88 DX very cheap but I"m not sure its engine will work. I also found a friend of a friend who has a farm with 6 to 8 Si's scattered around his property.
Which engine(s) will fit in my HF? I'm starting to exhaust my car mooching possibilities as my friends are getting fed up. Thanks in advance for ignoring my ignorance.

Thank you, I will probably end up doing that. But then couldn't I just use one of the SI engines from my buddy's farm? He also happens to be the automotive instructor at my college so he might be able to make his students do the swap making it even cheaper for me. Mwa hahaha. I guess what I'm asking is if any 'ol SI engine will fit easily into my HF.

Any d-series will work (88-00), just use your existing intake manifold, distributor (for most anyways), the 92-95 engine will fit but the distributor will only bolt up with 2 of the 3 bolts. I would get a 96-00 D15b or SOHC ZC (vtec or not) or possibly a obd0 DOHC ZC. since these are JDM motor they typicaly have 30 000 miles or less and should be good enough for you to finish school with no problems.

understanding the whole cheap college student perspective, id say pick up one of those si motors from your friends yard. How cheap will he let you have one for? throw him an offer for like $150 or somethin
