Hi everyone!
I just replaced my steering wheel ( i have a 1988 Civic SI Hb ) because the one i had was broken , the center piece where you push to use the horn was broke and was holding with tape. I bought another si steering wheel ( 3 spoke ) and just installed it but the horn doesn't work. I checked the connection and it is plugged in . I checked and cleaned all the metal and the connections are good and everything touches good.I checked the fuse box but havent found a fuse for the horn.Is there a fuse for the horn?
What could be the problem ?Or maybe i just dont have a horn...could that be possible?

thanks in advance!

Richard

was the horn working before the steering wheel broke? i know in my car the horn sounded really weird and high ppitched. i took the bumper off yo change the headlights and found two horn speaker things one was broken so i guess the two together make the sound, one high and one low. that has nothing to do with this thread but check behind the front bumper for loose connections...

the horn before didn't work before because the plastic cover in front of the steering wheel was broken and held on with tape so it didnt work.
I wioll check in the bumper...but where exactly in the bumper?shouyld i go underneath or how?

idk about hatches but my crx has 4 or 5 bolts holding the bumper on from underneath. bunch of plastics pain in the neck. after bolts are off just lift i think its resting on two hooks u should see the horns in the front somehwere

try checking the fuse box under the hood cause i think the fuse for the horn is by the ecu fuse...hope that helps...

Nahh...it's not the fuse i checked them all.
I think that my horns are not connected/plugged because if they were, when i had my old broken steering wheel the horn would have always been ON/buzzing because the plastic was broken an the contact was on(circuit was always grounded lets say). So i think that the previous owner unplugged them or they are broken.
If it's such a pain taking off the bumper i could just go to the scrap yard and buy a used horn and plug it instead of my factory ones....i think the wires are RED/BLUE for the ground an WHITE/GREEN for the Hot(12V).

What do you guys think?

thanks for your replies

Try this

Remove the steering wheel.

if you look where the wheel goes there is a small metal peice that hangs up ( hard to describe) it need to be grounded to activate the horn

if the horn does not Go, your horns (behind the front bumper) might be bad. i have replaced mine after they sounded like a ford Model-T horn.

if it does the wheel is bad... also the Horn fuse is under the hood if my memory serves me right....

what Kunundrum said....had a problem when my horn stayed on...took the fuse out and realized a month later that it was the fuse also to my rear lights

I'm pretty sure (99.9% sure) that it's not the fuse because i checked all of them and they are all good + my lights all work fine.

Next, i bypassed the horn mechanism and closed the circuit after taking off the steering wheel ( the little metal thing sticking out + the other metal piece next to it ) and still no horn.

I guess then that my horns are broken or just not plugged in...ill do a continuity test next week to check if everything is ok( my multimeter is at school ).

ok i found the problem!

both horns were broken....so i went to the scrap yard and bought 2 used ones for 20$. The horns retail 100$ for the 2 at Honda!! What a rip-off....

the hard part was removing and installing the bumper because all the bolts were rusted as hell.I actually broke 2 of them wich pissed me off really bad.

Now my horn works great now.

Actually, one of the ground wires was cut on the right horn so its good that i checked and fixed it up.

Thanks for all the replies guys...it helped a lot.

BY THE WAY : Honda horn sound like S*H*I*T !!!!!!!dumb engineers :)
