I am buying a 99 GS-R and i was wondering what i should do to it??
Obviously i plan to do I/H/E, but beyond that, what are some good things to do to it?? It already has Skunk 2 coilovers and i'm keeping the stock rims. Any suggestions are welcome

What are you plans with the car? Thats always good to know, then you can go from there. If you want an all around fast car, i would get some hi preformance Camshafts and such, thats what i want to get next, but im not sure what all needs to be done to install thoses. just a thought.

Do you want performace? Style? or both.. Performance or style can be expensive once you get past the basic mods (ie. I/H/E or taillight/HID/Body) and doing both is just more so. Then take a look at what you can afford and check out prices on stuff that you may want to do and realistically gauge it from there, cause if you need to you better start saving now to get all the things your gonna want.

I am going to leave the appearance of the car as is for now. I want to do some engine modifications for the time being. I was thinking of leaving it as is until i can afford to buy a turbo kit for it. I was talking to a guy on www.turbod16.com and he has a turbo GS-R so i might save for that. BTW it already has an HID kit.

HID (high intensity discharge) are those funky lights that you see on expensive cars. They are a white-blue (sometimes other colors) and seem to be more piercing than a normal light.

Ok, i have seen those HID lights for like 70, 80 bucks, i have also seen some "hyper white" lights for like 15 bucks at target.... Are those cheap ones going to like short circuit or burn up or any thing?

^^ i highly doubt you can find true HID lights for 70-80 bucks, maybe for the bulbs lol. a true HID swap can run upwards of 400 dollars. and yes, those cheap "hyperwhites" or any cheap bulb will burn out faster, if you want better lights for a low price, go get some sylvania silver stars (sp)

Well would the cheap ones just burn out faster, or would they like mess up your car?

they wouldnt mess up your car but some cheap runs require more wattage to light up (i.e. 90-100 watts) and that is way more then the oem socket can hold and you can burn your socket. The cheap ones are just halogen bulbs and, depending on what kind u buy, they can last for different amounts of time. I bought my halogen bulbs for $20 and they are super bright and pure white and i think they do pull a lot of wattage but havent burnt anything or caused me problems.

Yes they will melt the wires leading to and from your bulbs. They draw more wattage than stock therefore the wires would need to be upgraded to prevent overheating, but nobody does so they are known for melting the wires.

Congrats. I'm looking at a '99 GSR myself. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy it's got 66k, is black, in excellent conditions except for a few body dings, and new tires. It's basically stock and the guy wants $9k for it. Is this a good price? What did you pay for yours?

I paid $8500 for my 99 GS-R. It was already lowered, had a CAI on it, new Bridgestone all terrain tires and a set of GoodYear Eagle RS-1's for the summer, it has been repainted, and it only has 48000 miles on it. It has the tan leather interior and tinted windows. BTW it is a metallic flake green, and all of the body mouldings (including the rear wiper and spoiler) have been shaved.
I got a better deal than most people though. I knew the guy and he inherited a car so he just wanted to sell this one. I'll post some pics soon!!

I checked around a little bit and even for $9000 that is still a good deal. I've found some on Ebay that go for as much as $12000 so id say $9k is a fair price.
I had a 97 EX coupe Civic before this GS-R and i would never go back.......if this helps any.......it is sooooooo fun to drive!!! You woudn't regret it.
