First completed model - 911 Carrera

Ok, this is my first attempt at posting pics so hope they look ok, files are so small I can't believe they will come out ok but followed tutorial guide so I will find out once posted!

This is the first kit I have finished siince starting the hobby again this Christmas. I have also finished two others but let's see if this works first!

911 carrera kit bought on ebay - A pillar badly bent when I opened the box but think I've got away with it. Straight out of the box build except for turbo style rear lights and clear indicators.

Painted with Halfords Rover Blue and Halfords clear (never again - so thick!!!), Interior is a home made mix - very light deck tan I believe.

Anyway - if it works would love some comments - if not I'll no doubt be trying again soon!

Cheers Mick, I was hoping you'd drop in - you've been a good ear for my moaning these last few months!

Forgot to mention other nightmares I had with this kit. Firstly after final coat and hardening I wet sanded and rinsed the car. Then I shook it to get rid of excess water and managed to catch it on my jumper - tore the front bumper clean off and snapped up through rear arch to window - some extensive rework was required but you couldn't even tell now!

Not happy with the pictures though - shrunk them down so small the line definition has gone - any tips anyone - these are all under 80K but started off as 1.3Mb

Looks good to me, and just for info I use Halfords paint all the time, the trick is to lay down a few thin layers over the right colour primer. Dont try and apply to much paint at one time. With regard to pics I tend to compress them to 70k and use a size of 700 x 500 ish pixels.,is your camera set to highest quality?

I was taking the pics at 3 Megapixel quality (can go up to 5) these come out about 1.3Mb. Then I just reduce the size on photo editor until they are under 80K
The quality doesn't seem to be half as good as most peoples posts on here though!

TBH they look fine, but I have problems taking pictures. I have now reduced the quality and size of the picture taken with the camera and this helps reduce them in disk space size, then resize to 800 x 600 to around 70 - 80kb.

Also looks like even though you broke the rear of the car, you can't tell at all.. Good body work. and I use halfords primer and works fine, but never used halfords paint yet. But I intend to try it one day.

I just love 911's, and you've done a good job on this one. I've already built the GT3 version of this kit and have another and the Carrera yet to do.

As for Halfords clear (I guess you mean acrylic lacquer), I've used this many times and I thought it was quite thin! - maybe you've not shaken the can enough? I've found that for best results you should do one, or maybe two, really light coats and then a much heavier coat, each about 15-20 minutes apart. Then leave well alone somewhere warm for a few hours. I much prefer Halfords auto paints to Tamiya or Humbrol, etc.

I'm no photography expert, but I usually take pictures for internet use at the lowest resolution setting the camera has, then crop away everything not needed, ie background. Then only if necessary, change the image size (number of pixels). This usually works out fine for me, with a file size well inside the AF 80k limit.

I have found that there are two ways to reduce the file size on picture files. One is reducing the picture size. The other is reducing the pixel density. This does reduce the resolution, but if only viewing on a monitor, the resolution doesnt have to be great. This can be done with most picture viewing software packages.
