Okay here's an update on my baby. The car now dies when i give it gas. I checked vac lines, ran a scanner on it, and checked for spark---and that all checked out. I replaced the fuel pump almost 3 yrs ago and have put TONS of miles on it. Could it be the fuel pump? When I turn the key over I can hear it kick on, but then sometimes it doesn't. Any advice????

Please Help!!!!!!!!!desperate!!!!! (Post #1)
I have a 92 Grand Prix SE with 166,000 miles. The other day when I was driving home, I was accelerating to 60 and my car started to stutter like it couldn't make it. It finally did, but then when I slowed down to a stop, it acted like it wanted to die. Everytime I am at idle now it runs rough and sounds horrible. Anyone got any ideas????????

I cant help you much but I can tell you I had a similar problem starting my '95 grand prix. it was intermittent...but it never died when I gave it gas, just wouldnt start sometimes....the problem I had was a loose ground connection at the fuse box under the hood....
the stereo shop installed my amp wire to the bolt on the fuse box or junction box and cracked it ...maj=king it short out once in a while...I fixed it.
the only other time I had intermittent starting problems was a starter or alternator..gone bad or some broken teeth...which would egage sometimes.or a loose starter bolt I had that once they told me I needed a new starter and I found out it was just hanging by 2 bolts they didnt even check it...
maybe check the throlttle body or fuel filter..dirty or clogged maybe?
good luck
Dave

Check and see if you have any type of cracks around you air filter hose. Also, check to see if there are any tiny cracks on the vacuum hoses. Look at the top and the bottom. My car was doing the same thing; so chech that out

I've never changed it and I've had it for a little while....hmmmm...better be checking that.

When I checked out the hoses I noticed little splits. They were just surface splits. I've got a call in to drop the car off at a garage tomorrow....don't really want to, I like doing all the work on the car myself....running out of options though. :(

If I were you I would check the MAF and cam sensor, both of those caused similar problems on my car, although it was the MAF that caused the engine to quit, cam sensor just caused hesitation. Good Luck.
