Would a Radio out of a 97 GMC Jimmy fit and just plug in to a 1996 Grand Am ? I want to put a AM/FM/CD player in to replace the AM/FM/CD Cass.I had this Jimmy Radio/CD sitting around for a while. I gave my buddy 75.00 $ for it and now I was hoping to put it in my wifes GA . Will it work ?

Thanks inadvance .

Tom

Most likely the wiring harnesses will direct-plug in, and I pretty sure the external dimensions are the same, so you likely all good in the swap.

You may have to modify the mounting at the dash. When I changed my CD from my 98 Montana to my 96 GAGT I had to change the poaition of the front mounting brackets as well as the black nipple that is on the back of the unit it is used to secure the back of the unit in place it s;ides in to a hole in dash frame work. I don't know for sure if the GMC unit and the hole in the dash will line up. You may have to remove the nipple all together and just mount with the front mounts. It should be secure enough mine was. Knife is correct the wiring should connect right up.

Good luck.

Hey, No problem, I had done so many GM radios in my day, When I worked for the accessory shop that was our main change, but that was in the day when the cassette deck was the hot ticket. For some of you young guys the cassette was a tape about 3/8on two wheels inside a plastic case that was about 3"X2"X1/2' that slid inside the radio and music would play....

That was meant to be a JOKE!!!!!
I' showing my age...lol

Dude, I still run cassette radio, and have cassette recorder home stereo to mix my own tapes from cd, LOL, you ain't old, just practical.

Why shell the bucks for a cd player, unless ya can burn the cd's, and the sound off a cassetteisn't that much worse at road-speed than a cd?. LOL

My first car was a 63 dodge and I went out and got a 4 track tape player for it.Now thats old. "Long live the Beatles" LOL .I tryed to get the Jimmy CD player in where the Radio was and it would not go all the way back in ,had about a 1/2 inch still sticking out,After I got pp`d off and put the radio back in I found nuts for a the side mounts,I think that is what stoped it from going all the way in ?? So I`ll tryed it again on the next nice day.
