dodge fuel tank

I have a 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 when I fill the tank I can only go
about 175 miles before the gage is on E and the gas light comes on.
so I go to the gas station and the tank will only hold about 10 galons
of gas. please help Im going nuts .

your truck should have a 23 gallon fuel tank you can check in your owners manule to make sure. sounds to me like your sending unit in the tank as either been replaced with the wrong one or just is not working right.

when the gas light comes on the truck runs relly

I wounder if maybe you have had a baffel break loose in your tank then.

do you know if there is a drain plug on the dodge trucks, or do you have to drop the tank full?

to drain you could pull off line at filter and turn on key and pump will pump into a gas can.

by simply turning key on will not power pump for more than 2-3 seconds you must jump fuel pump relay to continuasily power pump

thanks I found a old fuel pump that works
so I jumped it from the batery and shuved the hose
down in the tank, sucked it dry.
