'97 GA (Quad 4) Engine Stumbles at idle (Engine Light Flashes)

After taking the motor apart to fix the timing issue that I had finnally figured out, I had the car back running. But now it has a erratic idle with the check engine light flashing. When I step of the gas, it runs very smooth and has plenty of power, but the check engine light stays on solid. I'm thinking it might be an IAC (Idle Air Control) or Maybe a TPS, but I am starting to run of of Ideas. Also, the valves need some help, it blows blue out at start up for a min or 2 and then quits, so Im going to try puting some lucus oil in to see if that will help with the bad seats on the valves. But for the most part, the compression is all good in all four cylinders, where 165 psi is the lowest! Anyone know what else might cause the rough idle?
Thanks everyone

go to autozone and have them scan the computer to see what codes come up

some culprits for rough idle
TPS
IAT sensor
IAC motor
Coil pack(s)
plug(s)
wire(s)
MAF
vacuum leak
all those could

Rodenour, Thanks for the tip, I know there are a lot of things I can try to see what it is. I just hope it isn't the IAC. It's $100 at autozone! Ouch! anyway, I'll let you know. Thanks again!

no problem - hey if it is the IAC motor, you most likely don't need a new one - it will just need to be cleaned. You can pull out the motor and clean the spindle end with throttle body cleaner, and clean the hell out of the cavity for it and the throttle body as well. Most likely IAC motors malfunction just because the rubber spindle end gets too dirty so it isn't able to travel freely in the hollow to adjust air flow - clean the hell out of the spindle end, the hollow cavity, and the throttle body, and it should solve the IAC problem (if that is what's causing it).
