front end noise

My 2001 stratus es is makeing a load squeal on the driver side only when I am above 30 mph. And not all of the time!It my do it for a couple of days then it goes away for a few weeks. It is not the brakes just changed them. Any ideas?

you may have a wheel bearing that's starting to go bad.

Im guessing your car has approx. 70-09k on it? if so, he's right. Most likely your wheel bearing hub assembly is gone. If your going to replace it yourself, replace both sides ..not just the one side. They cost approx. 75-100 ea. You will need "reverse-tork"(sp?) sockets to get the 3 retaining bolts out to remove the hubs. Forget what size..check with dealer. The center hub nut, if memory serves correctly, is a 1-1/2" nut..set to 100-105 ft/lbs.

No I only have 24k on it. I thought it might have somthing to do with the speedometer since it happens right at 30 mph and above and not all of the time. wouldn't the wheel bearing just do iy all of the time??

as the speed increases, the sound will get louder. You definetly have a bad wheel bearing, it's nothing wrong w/ your speedometer; if that was the case one of a few things would happen: your transmission would go into "limp mode," it will stick in second gear only, or your speedometer will not work. I'd follow the suggestion of everyone else, replace both wheel bearings while you're at it.

24K does seem quite pre-mature for Wheel bearings, however, on of two things could cause them to go bad real quick.. The factory either undertorked or overtorked your hub assembly when they installed it. When you first hear the noise, try turning your wheel hard to the left and hard back to the right. Does the sound get louder when you do this? If so, it could be they werent torked correctly, but unfortunately the hubs are now toast and need to be replaced. The ball bearings in the hubs are fried. Please heed to ft/lbs tork requirements on replacement..hubs will last longer
