If you search the forum back a couple of weeks there is a thread that will show you how to build your own CAI. I have one of the ones shown on e-bay and it works fine although it really is a high flow air intake not a CAI since it pulls air from under the hood. I intend to lengthen it this summer.

so to make it a cai you would just have to run it through the fender wall?
gtpdad u bought the 15 or 50 one off of ebay. By the looks of it it seems like the only difference is a K&N filter....besides being reuseable/washable are they any better?

one time i took the K&N off my buddys car and put it on mine and made a run down the strip and it didnt do anything diffrent my time was in the avarge range of all my other times and after i put my 15$ one back one and it was very close to the same time.
mine is also washable i use the K&N filter cleaning kit once a yr and the rest of the time i just use water to clean it

I have a 9" on my Thrasher CIA. Clean it about twice a year. We get a lot of sand down here.

I really don't remember how much I paid for it but I don't think I paid $50 it was more like $29. The filter is similar to the K&N and cleans up the same way. I also use the K&N recharger kit. To make a CAI work you need to get it into an airstream where the air is colder than the underhood temps. By placing the filter in the fenderwell and blocking air from under the hood you will get colder air. Some of the kits simply place the air filter near the front of the engine compartment and have a box that keeps heat away from the filter. This is how thrasher and the K&N CAI's work.

aaah right right....ic what your saying
urs have a box around it?
i'm not gonna put into in the fenderwall because of that water problem
side note, now why the hell would GM put the PCM in the air box?

Mine doesn't have a box but I plan to extend my intake this summer and then fab one myself. Sheet metal is easy to find and a couple of bends and cuts here and there along with some sealer and you have a genuine CAI.
