I was just wondering what the reasoning why GM no longer puts a diesel in a half ton truck. They used to; my dad has one. Why wouldn't they?

Probably because of not only the weight of the engine, but also due to the rated towing capacity of a Duramax. An old 6.2 diesel wasn't exactly a torque monster. A 1/2 ton chassis would never hold up to the weight a D-max would tow. Now, with that said, they could (and should) offer a lighter duty diesel engine for a 1/2 ton.

Yeah, well, that's what I meant.
