97 wrangler

I have this really really annoying rattleling/squeak sound coming from the tranfer case. When i get under and jiggle the rear drive shaft it makes that noise. Eben sitting in the jeep and rocking side to side it makes the sound. Any ideas whats wrong, sometimes if you engage the 4 wheel drive it stops the sound?!
