Does GTO mean strictly VR4 only or is any 3000GT considered a GTO?

GTO is the japanese version. doesn't matter if it's base, sl, or vr4, they are all GTO's in japan.

they changed the name to 3000GT due to the Pontiac already having a GTO in the states.

With the engine the way it is you'd think all 3000GTs would be too.

Wait, so there were base and SL AWD? Hmm....like just AWD without the twin turbos or something? So technically speaking, a GTO is somewhat different from a 3000GT then huh?

Where there wernt SL or VR4 models

Im not sure if there was a base model, but there was an SR which is AWD NA with manual or auto trans, the Twin Turbo which is as close to the VR4 as it gets, and the MR which is the Twin turbo drivetrain on the chassis of the SR.

I know we have already discussed the meaning of VR-4, but does anyone know the origin or 3000? where did they get that from?
