i Have a 1999 Grand Am SEII with a 3.4 liter V-6

sometimes when i try to start it the service engine soon light fast flashes and the car turns over but won't start

when it does start the service engine soon light stays on solid until the car is running.

sometimes after the car is started the car will die and the whole cycle
(service engine light cycle) starts over.

sometimes i have to turn the car off and on forty or fifty times to get it to start. It has never stored any codes, does this sound like an ignition switch problem, that is what a mechanic has said it could be, or a ECM or Ignition Module problem

It could be an ignition switch problem, but next time it's running, I would deffinately take it and have the alternator and battery tested at autozone in order to eliminate the possibilities of those two.

another good bet would be to have the codes read while the light is on - get a scanner and have it ready
