I went over to this local place after my neighbor told me he paid 200 bucks for his backup camera. Well with the color camera, input, and labor it will cost $630 bucks. The guys saw the truck before they quoted me so I think I am being taken advantage of because of it. I figured no more then $350-$400. It just seems really high. Anyone have any experience besides knowing it's not cheap?

$200 is about right for the camera only. Hook up cables, monitor, install cause the price to be in that neighborhood ( $630 ). Was it the HitchCam ? It's higher than the NavCam. I like the NavCam for $400 plus $85 is fair for installation.

No I have the screen already. How hard is it to install? I really don't want to spend more then $400.

Not that hard at all--I recently installed the JP Customs backup camera on my DXL; $199 isn't that bad of a price considering that you're getting the camera, billet mount (for installing in the space right above the hitch receptacle) and pedestal mount (not needed if you have a NBS full-size SUV with the tow package--Escalade excepted--since you can just use the billet mount). Install is straightforward, power/ground wires connect exactly where the instructions state they should connect to. The only "difficult" parts of the install are connecting the video cable to your monitor (if the monitor video input connector is buried somewhere behind it) and connecting the reverse trigger wire to the reverse wire (so that screen/backup cam fires up when you shift into reverse)...but if you know how to get/where to find either one, it should be a piece of cake.
FWIW--if I had to nitpick about the camera, it would be that it doesn't "warm up" instantly...or it could just be a function of my screen needing to warm up beforehand (it's not as if the screen is in video mode constantly).

I got the guy down with another scenario, mini screen included for about $330. So I am happy. The screen will go right in my drivers side corner I think, and the camera will go either above the hitch casing as stated above, or around the rear license plate.

If that includes install, then that is a pretty good price. How big (or, how small) is the screen? I assume that the camera and screen will be wired such that the screen comes on only when you shift into reverse...I mention this because, depending on what is included in your backup camera/monitor kit, you might need a relay if you want the camera/screen to activate in this manner.

Just saw one of these today. I like it a lot. Clips under 3rd brake light and comes with 3.5" screen. This may be the one I get.
