my rpm gauge reads 2000 rpms when idleing (we all know thats not right) so what are some of the possible solutions to this that is not highly expensive. i tried to take out the whole cluster to see if its just a bad ground but cant figure how to take it out.

no when i am driving it moves but its not reading the rpms right. when i am ideling it reads 2000 but whenb i take off it goes to 3000 3500...etc. when i shut my car off the needle just stays where it was when it was shut off.

the needle spring on the inside is stretched. take off the face and push it back to zero if possible; did that on a friends honda prelude and that fixed it, otherwise youll be looking at a new tach.
