Clock Radio Display

I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana and the Clock Radio Display is not working. Everything else with the radio works but you can't tell the station that your on, cd song number, equalizer information or anything. If anyone had similar problem I'm looking for suggestions.

My 98 has a similar problem. Does yours not work at all, or does it display incorrect/missing parts of digits? Mine has does that since I purchased it used 3 years ago. It comes and goes with no apparent pattern as to what might cause it. I don't believe it's a loose connection within the radio assembly.

If anyone has had similar problems and solved it, other then replacing teh radio, we'd both like to know.

Mine is completely dead. Nothing shows on the display at all.

The bulb for the backlit display is shot.
Pull the radio & remove the face plate (a few clips)
from the radio. There's enough slack in the cable that runs from the face plate to the radio to leave it connected. You'll see the tiny bulb soldered in there on the faceplate. Find a local tv/radio repair shop, they'll probably have a suitable replacement.
Mine cost me $2.43 Ca for two.

If there is nothing showing, then that can be the case. In my case though, it's not the backlighting that is the culpret, but a faulty LCD or driver. Individual segments either not functioning, or function at the wrong time.

Had this problem in the first two years of ownership. Only became more noticeable in cold weather. Half the digits would disappear intermittently.

Took it in under warranty and the radio shop replaced the front face of the radio. Apparently this is a common problem.

I don't recall seeing it happen in warm weather though, but maybe that was just the way our radio worked.

The only way to fix it is to take it to reputable radio shop.

Up here, Custone ElectroMotive (an AC-Delco distributor) does repairs under franchise agreement with GM Canada. Don't know who does it in the States.

They've got light bulbs soldered in there????
The right side of mine has been out for 2 years. I figured it was the LED that was faulty and not worth fixing. The dash is coming out of that thing as soon as I get a chance.

It is actually a small light bulb. There is a website somewhere that tells how to fix it. Maybe google it. I would have thought it was an LED too. My steering wheel radio control light have also quit working. These things are just junk.
