Hi I am looking to paint my car the marbilizer color from house of kolor pain tline. I was wondering if anyon ehas any experience with that paint. How hard would it be to spray that color and any special requirements does that paint need during the spraying process. Also what about candy colors. Are they hard to spray?

You have picked two of the hardest kinds of paint to spray. They both require a bit of experience in spraying. Marbalizers are just tricky. I've never done it, but a lot of the marbalized jobs just suck. I have sprayed candys. They get darker with each layer so you have to learn how much to spray to get darker than what you want, and get exactly what you want when you color sand.

You know HoK will set you back a few grand right? Somebody here wanted to paint for a couple hundred I cant remember who it was.

WHat is so hard about marbelizer? I think I need to get a silver basecoat, marbelizer paint, clear coat. What else would I need. I know people who I used to work for and they are going to help me spray it. What other stuff would I need to spray marbelizer besides what I have listed?

I've never done marbalizer. I've just seen a few jobs that look good, and a lot that look like crap.

would I be better off going candy than marbelizer and just from your own experience. I have a 1993 Honda Del Sol with shaved tail lights, molded mr2 scoops on the sides, molded body kit, air bagged. If it was yours what color would you go with?

Candy's are hard...probably harder than marbalizer. But if you are getting candy paint, thats a completely different thing. Its just labeled candy. There are a million different types out there. Are you talking about candy paint or candy paint (the process)?

the Marbilizers HOK makes are simple to use in my opinion. They do work rather fast,so it is a good idea to have some help when using them. The most common way to use the marbilzer is with plastic sheeting.Senario.....say you wanted you car to look like a silver and black marble.First you would spray your basecoat black, when it is all applied and dry,it is time for the marbilizer.Load your gun with HOK silver/white marbilizer.Have a couple of buddies standing behind you with a sheet of plastic as long and the panels you are spraying.Spray 1 medium wet coat of the marbilizer on the car and let it dry for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, depending on how it it is.Put the plastic to the marbilzer while it is still wet and rub your hand or what ever you want to give it a pattern. When done rubbing out the plastic, pull it off the car and dispose of it.Now you will see how the marbilzer works.NOW,I can not stress this enough,DO NOT spray straight clearcoat over the marbilzer,it will destroy it.before the final clear goes on,you need some kind of protection over the marbilizer,HOK makes a paint called intercoat clear for this,it is basically a clear basecoat. Now you have the marbilizer protected, you can spray your final clearcoats.

Kandy Paints...they are the hardest paints a painter may ever try and master.I know alot of seasoned painters that will not touch the stuff but when you do get them on right, there is no other paint that will have the depth a "true" kandy paint has.A true candy paint needs a base color (silver being one of the most popular) and then the kandy, followed by clearcoat.Say kandy apple red for instance, what this paint actually is,is a red clearcoat in its true forum, kandy cobalt blue, would be a blue clear coat but they do need a normal clear coat on top of them. There are also alot of kandy basecoats that mimic the look but put next to a true kandy, the differance if obvious. There are also kandy concentrate witch spray like a base coat over a base color but i do not think they look as good as the real thing either.

To spray kandy paint, you must get in a groove and stay there. You also must walk the entire length of the vehichle being painted or you will have a mess right off the bat.A gun that will spray a perfect pattern is a must too,I use a Sata NR 2000 and a Sata RP.

If you do try kandy paint, you will mess up,that is the only way to learn it and dont let it discourage you, just practice and you will get the feel of it.
