Hi,
Just want to thank you all for the help. I know that I didn’t ask any questions but after being frustrated with my escort I tried a web search and ended up with loads of information.
My problem was “engine runs rough at steady speeds” however it seemed to start with a different problem. Counting from left to right, the 3rd cylinder’s spark plug burned to slag. Lost the threads in the head taking it out. Install one “helicoil” replacement insert. Spark plug melted in 500 miles. Ditto times 3. Finally found a mechanic that had came across the same problem in an escort. It turned out to be the coil pack.
His explanation was the coil pack goes bad on one side sending very little spark to one plug and a lot of juice to the other plug resulting in over heated plug and meltdown.
It worked.
Then it begin to stumble at times, then more…. You know the story. Well no codes except catalytic converter error. Plugs ok, fuel filter changed, vacuum lines checked. Pcv valve change, new air filter, ect… checked plug wires at night, but not into checking them by running my hand over them. After finding your forum I changed the plug wires anyway and viola! Problem seems gone. Thanks again

Ps.
I enjoyed reading some of the threads. Heater core made me smile, I can smile about it now. I have changed mine twice. I can live without A/C but not heat, can’t clear windows in winter. Anyhow I can change it now in 5 hours with only one box of Band-Aids. But I did lose the hazard light switch

Thanks all
George
