Ticking noise

I have a 99 civic lx, and there is a ticking noise coming from the engine, if I rev the engine up it ticks faster, I was told this is just the sound of my engine turning over. Is this true or is it something else? and can I fix it? Sometimes after my car has been off for awhile and I start it, it does not make the noise, but it start making the noise after I drive it for even a short period of time. Cold/warm/hot weather does not affect it.

close to 69k miles, I've never had it done, owners before me, no idea. I've had it less than a year I think, it had 56k miles on it. Don't remember it making the noise when I bought it.

The noise seems to be getting louder. Someone has to have some info on this!!

Valvetrain ticking noise. Some Ohio-built 1995-97 Accord LX and DX models may exhibit a ticking noise coming from the valvetrain. The cause could be excessive intake rocker arm shaft clearance at the No. 2 cylinder.

To zero in on the diagnosis, measure the clearance of the No. 2 cylinder intake valve closest to cylinder No. 1. If the clearance exceeds .40mm, replace the cam holder (Part No. 12010-POB-305, H/C 5686423) and the adjoining intake rocker arm shafts at the No. 2 cylinder. If the clearance is less than .40mm, adjust the valve clearance to specs (cold), then see if the adjustment screw threads are visible above the locknut. If they are, you're done. If the threads aren't visible, replace the cam holder.

Do I need to have them adjusted or can I do it myself?

you can pay the $70 to get it done (the cost of 1 hours worth of labor) or you can do it yourself. you will need feeler gauges.

Alright, been reading through the chilton book, in this book is it valve lash adjustment that your talking about?

i think you engine is gone bud same thin happend to me and i thought it was the valves. turuned out the next mournin to work my engine blew clouds of smoke all over the hig way. but now i got a b18c1 so im alllllllllll goooooooood lol . as you drive do you hear the noise gettin louder and faster

ticking heads that ive seen went away with a simple valve adjustment. maybe yours is an isolated event.

just do the valve adjustment first. that is step one.
