when does vtec kick in?

hi guys i was test driving a 00 civic si and i couldnt kick it in vtec i gased it all the way to 5000 rpm.

do i have to gas it up higher to feel the vtec to kick in?

i am not sure exactly when it kicks in on your particular engine but it is going to hit above 5,500 rpms or so.
