Well, we got our runs in this weekend and while I hate to say it, autos are slow from a roll.
Bobby and I went to Speedway on Saturday to do a few more grudge matches. He did a couple of WOT hwy runs with me following on the way over there and I knew then things were going get interesting.
We got to the track and like usual it was way too crowded and traction sucked. We got two runs in against each other before calling it a day. Bobby lost traction on the first run and had to bail out, I cut a 2.202 60' (street tires) for a [email protected].
We switched lanes for the next round. This time I botched the launch 2.354 60' and ran a [email protected]. He cut a 2.292 60' and ran a [email protected]. I had a reaction time of 0.168 vs his 0.593 so I still got win. We left the track agreeing to do a few hwy runs.
Traffic was a little heavy to allow any runs on I210 east of the 605. We tried running twice but didn't properly line up on these runs. When Bobby got the jump I would usually fall back 1 to 2 cars and couldn't make up any ground up going to 120-130.
We countinued on the 210 toward the Simi Valley area. Traffic was clear enough to allow a few runs.
Run 1 (from 75 to 130 or so).
We got a clear stretch and I honked three times. In the time it took me to react and for the car to downshift Bobby put about 1.5 car lengths on me. He kept pulling till about 110 at which time I was about 2.5 cars back. From that point on we pretty much stayed even and ran up to about 130-135 (didn't shift to 4th, 142).
Run 2 (from 65 to 130).
We got another opening and I hoked it off again. He jumped out to a 1 to 1.25 lead again and increased his lead slowly. He kept walking and got about 2 cars before we shut down at 130+.
Run 3 (55 to 120)
We went from 55 and I was at his passenger door following his initial jump. I stayed there thru the remainder of my 2nd gear. We got up to 90 and the car shifted into 3rd and lost a little bit of ground (slipped to the rear 1/4 panel). We kept going and it remained close up to 120 were we had to brake for traffic.
All in all it was a fun night and an automatic's disadvantage became crystal clear to me (6 gears are better than 4). I must now go get a stall convertor.
Round 5 pending :iceslolan

Man....sounds like a couple of nice runs.
Also, looking at your trap speeds, I am glad I got a bigger cam than the LS6 one.

Thanks for posting the results Danno. It was defintely a fun day for me. Both of us had minor car problems (Me getting there, as my car didn't have enough antifreeze, and him at the track, due to a drained battery). I'm happy i'm finally bringing my 60' time down. F bodies have a horrible suspension system for drag launched IMO. I think the next time I go i'll have DR's. Round 5 should be interesting as i'll probably go with the BF Goodrich DR's or the MT DR's.

Plan on blowing up the rear?? :screwy:
I ran at the track myself yesterday. Clutch wouldn't allow me to truely use my Nitto DR's. It slips, and it slips bad. I got a best of 14.108 at 105.23 on the mountain.

You shouldn't blow up the rear end on DR's. It's when you use slicks that you run the risk of that. I use to have nittos on my camaro, and never had a problem with the rear end. I think that in your case you may have problems, due to the power your car puts out, but i'm probably not pushing anything over 320 whp.

That is kinda the cool part. That is about what I make in actual RWHP. Right around 320. Damn altitude takes a bunch of it away.

Sounded like some nice runs. Your car would probably be in the high 12s with a 6-speed.
EDIT: based on your best-ever runs BTW

Looks like Danno's not gonna be the only one with a Z06 cam next time we race :D Just got one on LS1.com off an 03 Z06 for $135 shipped. If Danno thought the roll race was ugly before, he ain't seen nothing yet. Muahahahaha J/K
