87 s10 HEEEELP!

I just rebuilt the 2.8 in my truck and I have it all back together except for the distributor. Can anyone tell me if the 7:00 position for #1 TDC is looking at the motor from the front of the vehicle or 7:00 from the back of the motor????

And also if that wasn't enough when I did turn it over the radiator cap was not on and water shot out about three feet!! any explanation??
