any easy/cheap ways to improve gas mileage?

I am sure many people are also wondering, with the crazy gas prices as of late.

Right now I am averaging about 22/23 mpg with mixed city and highway. Though I do have a pretty heavy acceleration foot ;)

anything I can do (besides changing driving habits)

Do high end filters make a real life difference?
cold air intake
any recomendations on tire pressure...

Increased gas mileage is the main reason I was looking for a smooth flowing air intake. I know that replacing the entire intake system can add several miles to the gallon in mileage, but I do not know if replacing just the filter will make a noticeable difference. As for the tires, check on the sidewall for the max pressure. If it is like mine on the 02 GLS, the max pressure is 44psi. Hyundai recommends runnig at 32psi, which is considerably lower. I have set mine at 40psi, and I see an improvement of 2-3mpg over factory settings. Good luck, and if you find anything else, let us all know!

Running at 40psi will wear the inside tread out quicker. The 44psi they recommend at max is under a load, as if you are trailering something. They should not be at 44psi without any load on them, other than the car itself. Over time, you will notice that the middle of the tire is wearing out faster than the outside.

I agree that running at 44psi is a little high, but at 38-40psi, I have not noticed any uneven wear over the last 50k miles. As long as you rotate them regularly so that they get equal time under the weight of the engine, they should wear fairly evenly.
