Okay i am looking to turbo a 1g dsm, i am going into the airforce and will have ALOT of money to play with, and i do have alot of money to play iwth right now. My question is, should i go with a evo 16g or a 20g? I'm looking for 400-500 whp. this includes a raceblock and a race head from dsmparts.com also does the 20g have more lag then the 16g because of size?

Do alot of research.
Are you looking for a 500hp goal?
or are you looking for a better than ?? sec 1/4 mile time?
If you have a decent amount of money to play around with... knowing how much would be nice... you might want to skip to a 'nicer' turbo. The average dsmer with supporting mods should get a version of the 16g. Preferably the evo III big 16g. You will be running 12's if you do everything right and wont lose very often.
If you want to just build a kickass car and want to go faster than said 12's and are really looking at getting a race block/head then you should be doing alot of homework and money researching.
Will you be getting the block from someplace like buschurracing.com? Or having a local shop out together something you pick parts for?
A answer to the turbo question if you are going race block: SBR-GT35R from slowboyracing.com they used to have the break down of spool up times etc but some programmer wrench monkey changed it to the bland amount of info it is now. Call em up and ask for flow rates and spool up times.
Take into account that no matter what you do, how ported everything is affects spool up times. You can get a good 20g and have everything ported well and still have a 'decent' spool up time but again do your research. The evo III big 16g flows alot of air.

Make sure to use the catalog at dsmtuners.com to find a good price on a turbo. There is a lot of differences between the sites. You said you are going to TC the dsm. Is it NT right now??? Just a little confused. If you charge the NT you will need mucho supporting mods to get that turbo to work.....exhaust, intake, and theres no way a NT fuel system will give you any power on the 16, or 20g. For anything over 400 HP get min 680cc injectors and a 255 LPH fuel pump. This goes for a factory turboed car too. The EVO III GT is good for 400 hp @ 550cfm, but I don't know if you would want to run it that high all the time....its probably safe up to about 370hp, 400 is pushing it. I have a friend with a 20G in his talon who runs 11.5....on his POS tranny. His best time with a shep tranny was 11.2 :iceslolan awd of course...EVO III is a great turbo, for a smaller HP car. Honestly, I think there are a lot better turbos out there than the 20G for high HP engines....Either a full garrett setup, or a nice hybrid. :2cents: Buscher does good engine builds. Oh, and don't forget a fat clutch.
I know a guy who did a 6bolt swap with a gt35r and every other mod you could imagine...the car was fasssst.

You don't need half of that shit for a 16g turbo. You would be lucky to get 375whp. Your mod list is way too extensive for 550cc injectors and a 16g.
If you want 400-500whp, decide between the 20g and a T3/T4. Again, the list you have is overboard. Take a look at someone's mod list that has a similar turbo to what you want.

lol wow that is a lot of shit. If you are throwing in that much, i say dump the nt, pick up a 92 with a 6bolt and rebuild the motor and then add all those parts in. If you got the money, i say go with some sort of garrett...they are a little higher quality than mitsu turbos....I say go with a full garrett for the amount of money ur putting into it. mmmm garreettttt....Dual ball bearings all the way man. ooo that reminds me....was Hot import nights and some guy in the parking lot had a built porsche gt2 with 2 gt25r turbos....sounded sooo sick
Oh, BTW, i would go with a sheperd racing tranny...best one out there
And only 375 hp?!?! i dont think so. If you got some real injectors (680+) with those cams and all the shit ur doing you could def run that turbo to its max...thats just with the 16g. Get a bigger one, and with ur shit u would break 400 no sweat with proper tuning

I'm talking about the 16g. You won't break 400 with one. I wouldn't recommend a ball bearing turbo because you saw a porsche and it sounded neat. There is no difference in quality between mitsu and garrett turbos.
If you want a 16g setup, half the list is overboard. If you want 400whp+, you need something else, but some of the list is still overboard.

I would recommend going with a full garrett setup from AGP (www.agpturbo.com). I'd probably opt for the 60-1 turbo since you're looking for quite a bit of power. That setup/turbo should do very nicely with your mods and goals.

Yea, i think im going to go with the t3/t4, my friend is selling me his turbonetics t3/t4 for 150 dollars, thats a steal, and i think im going to go with 700 or 650 cc injectors not sure yet, still looking around. I really want to keep my 91, because i mean, i love it, and cherish it. Keep in mind, this is a street car. I hope for this to be all done by the end of 2005 for the upcomming 2006 season. Also, how are Unorthadox racing underdrive pulleys?

Riceboys LOVE to say T3/T4 and give you no specs. Make sure it is in good shape and try to get specs before wasting any cash.
UR's UDP is unbalanced. Use with caution.

You need to determine what kind of T3/T4 it is before you buy it and anything else for your setup.

Umm I didnt know when I posted first that you had a NT. You said DSM....
I would first: Sell your NT and take that plus whatever money you have saved up and but a gst or gsx (gsx preferably). If you are in DEP and are waiting to goto boot camp look for a buying for your car since your not going to need it once you leave for basic. When you get out of basic and start your tech school you can take whatever money you made from car sale+money saved from basic and get yourself a real DSM. From there you can start building a nice car.
The hassles of going through with making a NT car fast compared to doing the above are just to great. If you are stuck on making your NT into a real car I HIGHLY suggest having a real good conversation with EclipseRST.
Again, cost efficient and over all performance wise you will be better off finding a GST or even better a GSX to start working on.

:iagree:
If you are going turbo, it is easier in a lot of ways to just get a gst/x. And, well i know 400 is the max EVO III is rated at, but I'm sure with all the shit hes putting on his car he could max that thing out no problem with some good tuning. I wouldent reccomend it tho, to much stress on the turbo, might as well get a bigger one. Make sure the T3/T4 is designed for a dsm...a lot of them are for hondas and become nusicances when you discover it won't go on properly. Since you got mucho dinero, get a brand new turbo, from a dsm site. T3/t4's arent actually as popular on dsm's as i thought they used to be. Full garrett for that setup would rape apes. Will need everything from manifold, to downpipe, to piping changed out, but it looks like your already getting that shit aftermarket.
dsmtuners.com catalog will have everything you would need....
I know it will be hard to part with a car you love, but drive a gsx and then you will forget all about the NT. And the gsx will become the one you cherish and put your time into

Although I don't agree that the 16g running 25psi, maxed, is going to break compared to a larger turbo that can run more boost and higher RPM, for $570 you can afford for it to go out sooner, considering a T3/T4 will cost nearer to $700+ and require a new manifold, unless you are talking about a hybrid. All garrett turbos with T3 hotsides will require a new manifold, and made for a DSM or not, all T3s will bolt to it.

Yea, i think i will be going with a GSX instaid, not sure yet tho. I mean, i love my car, thats why i want to do it to this one, but yes, a GSX will be more cost efficient. I have recently started thinking of getting a bike also. Thus putting another hole in my wallet. but hey, then i would have a GSX and a GSX-R :) Ill keep you guys posten on what i decided to do.
