I am a new owner of a 1994 cherokee, and what its doing is when you shitft from park to drive, it almost sounds like a clunk, and moves or jumps a bit. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any reason to worry over this???

a '94 is getting a little old and my '94 when I bought it in '98 did the same thing. There may be a little slack in the driveline, probably the U-joints due to the normal wear of an 11 year-old Jeep.
I don't think it is necessarily a big problem. You will probably go another 100,000 miles without having any real issues depending on how you drive it. I wouldn't do any heavy duty four-wheeling off road with it.
The lurch forward is pretty much normal. All the Cherokees do that. Even my 2000 did that when it was brand new. If it is dramatic you probably have the idle set too high. Check the specs. It should not idle over 700 RPMs.
Jeep Cherokees are just noisy and you feel everything that's going on with the whole driveline more than other vehicles. You get used to that after a while
