Did the problem start before or after you went to Goodyear. I went to Goodyear for a simple wheel balance and tire rotation for my 2000 Cherokee and experienced some of that. I say take it to a REAL alignment shop and see what they say. Who told you to go to Off Road Warehouse? Off Road Warehouse? Is your front end modified? All you are going to find out at Goodyear shops is what Goodyear tires you should buy!

tb It happened after I had the the same thing done as you . Good year made the sugestion .Off Road said it would cost $70 to look at it. No modifications. I think you may be right about taken it to a front end shop only. The Jeep is not worth dumping a grand into. This is the first time I have ever expierenced in any car I have ever had. Making me crazy. Have to drive from SD,CA. to Kentucky. Wount make it like this. Thanks for the advice.

Scallops on the tires are usually a sign of worn shocks, Goodyear should have told you that, caused by the wheel "hopping" because the shocks basically aren't keeping the tires on the ground. As for the alignment, I use an alignment shop in SD over near midway and rosecrans, it's all they do. Look for a shop that just does alignments, especially one that knows about 4x4 and solid axle aligns. ORW is a nice place to go shopping if you want to spend an exorbitant amount of money to build a pretty, chrome, sky-high 4x4 with huge tires that will only see dirt if you make a wrong turn and end up in an alley. There's better, smaller shops around SD who won't try to sell you a 90" lift kit and 78" tires. If all else fails, drive through the wobble and don't slow down 'til you see the blue grass of Kentucky :-) drive safe

Thanks grey 88. I was told of that shop down on Rosecrans. Scallops acured because of going to long with out alignment.UR right about ORW. Only called to get some info.Shocks are good, bushings are original, but tight. If what ur saying after taking it into check it out, tires would be alot less costly, rather then dumping $$$$$ into a guessing game. Thanks for the imput. Do u know the name of that store?

I agree with above posts; skip ORW and go to a frame and alignment shop. If the "front end goes crazy" at any speed something is not right. If the front end is in proper alignment and your still having problems it could be the ball joints. I have seen them bind up making it hard to keep the vehicle going straight without constantly correcting the steering wheel. What ever it is get it fixed for yours and everybody else's safety.

Thanks for the feed back. It only seems to happen when u hit some uneven road at 45 +. the steering only goes nuts when the woble starts. 2ND Thought, all though all tires have been rotated front to rear because of not aligning them when I should have. 2 weeks ago I went to dicount tire to have the rear moved to the front. Because all the tires are similar in tread wear with scalops, could that be a cause? Another sugestion, idler arm? stabilizer bar? all have been checked. Need to know the alignment shop down off of Rosecrans in SD. Several people have suggested a real front end shop. Again thanks for the input.

Tires only get that bad when something in the suspension or steering system is worn out and loose. If you only put new tires on and nothing else, then my guess is they will soon be torn up also. This is if you don't crash first. Get it fixed. A good shop (or an experienced home mechanic) should be able to easily find the problem. It is really hard for anyone to guess without inspecting it.

Thanks allmostStock for the info. Today took it to the Alignment Shop here in San Diego. When in, told the story. Got into the jeep took it out on the high way and BANG it shook so bad around 55mph that the guy thought we were going over. Brought it back, he took his boss out, Bang same thing. Put it on the rack, check a few things out. Came up with solution. Replaced inner tie rod end $39. Checked 2 front tires on balancing machine, tires shot. Replaced to fronts with new 30x9.50/15s.
Mounted , balanced front, aligned front end the old way. Took it out, came back switch tire sides to make sure they were true. Done. Cost
$333.41 parts an labor. Major parts Tires. All I can say is you don't mind spending the $$$$ for some one who does what they say they can do. True service today is getting harder to find with out getting ripped. I do appreciat all the feed back guys. Inow feel a lot safer with this drive to Kentucky. Stay tuned for the next adventure with the Jeepster.
