Air Bag Question

I rebuilt a 92 LeSabre where the air bag deployed. I replaced the bag and sensor with a used unit I removed from a salvage car that was not in an accident. Before I installed the new sensor, I checked it with an ohm meter compairing it to the old one and found that they read the same, 8.5 Kohm. The LeSabre shop manual says to go to the ESM to find out how to check the sensor or for more infomation on it. The local dealer does not have that old of ESM manual, or will not look for me.

Does anyone have access to the ESM and can tell me what information is there or can anyone help on how to check the sensor. The Buick dealer seemed to think that the sensor was the steel ball and magnet type and resets automatically.

Right now with the bag installed and sensor not, the air bag light stays on.

I am in a similar situation and was curious if you solved your airbag issue? New air bags have been installed and a new module and yet the airbag deployed light stays on. Did the new sensor solve light problem?

haved not solved the problem. apparently it takes a code scanner to reset the light but I have not found anyone that can do it yet. two people tried and have not succeded. i may try to contact the scanner company they used to see if they can help. let me know if you find out anything and i will do likewise.

Once you have an airbag blow the computer stores a code for airbag deployed. This code is a latched code and cannot be cleared. Only way to get the light of is to change the air bag computer.

I have replaced the airbags and the computer module but the light continues to stay on. (I have actually tried 3 different modules) When I hook car up to the diagnostic scanner I get a code 42, low voltage driver and passenger. I am at a loss as to how to correct this.

From Alldata: "After deployment has occurred, SIR diagnostic trouble codes must be cleared using scan tool Clear Codes command. This must be done to turn the air bag warning lamp off."

This if from the ESM for a 94. I think 92 would be similar. This will require a lot more than a "normal" scantool. You'll need a friend at a dealership or a very well equipped shop.

I get the idea that the codes are not stored in the airbag module, which would make sense if replacing it does not reset the light.
