Day of fun ended early for me...

Like i mentioned before, i was at streets of willow this weekend with my new JIC suspension...however, things didnt get off to a good start...
friday night, i was flushing out my radiator because i know it's gonna be hot on saturday for the race...everything went fine, added the red line water wetter and everything.....earlier in the day, i also got my car corner weighted and adjusted the alignment, toe-in and camber so i can maximize my sumi tires...anyway, took out allthe stuff that i odnt need such as rear seats, floor mats, panels...all the weighty stuff and went to sleep.
next morning, we always meet at a place before we all head to the race...i noticed after i got to the meeting place, there was white smoke coming out of my car...popped the hood and i actulaly forgot to put the freaking radiator cap back on...sigh...coolant was everywhere (good thing it was early in the morning around 530am so it was still cold outside!) so a buddy took me home and we found the cap and head out to the track....
the first run was really fun, pushing the car quite hard, i actaully managed to get under 1min 49sec despite NO engine upgrade..was kinda happy!
anyway, for those of you know, in streets of willow, there is a chicane towards the end of the track but it's blind so before you enter it, u kinda hve to get in the right position, so u can drive straight through it and if you run over the second candy-cane bump, you will be ready to set up for the next turn. well, tha'ts what i did but unfortunately ( i had a windshield crack earlier) my windshield started cracking...due to all the chasis flex that it had while running over those bumps....it cracked all the way from top to bottom and it will not be safe to run anymore or my windshield might shatter....what a dissapointment...
i will need to replace it on monday and it will cost me lots of money....:( :( :(

Sounds like one of those..."i should have stayed in bed" days :D

Even with the short track time, did you think the suspension setup was what you wanted or you have to fine tune it some more ??

Shoot, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad they were only minor though (not that a windshield is cheap).

Did you meet any of the SoCal SERCA guys? They are usually at most of the track events.

surprisingly, only a few nissans were out there...the track is FILLED with ae86s...lots of drifting, it was really cool to watch...for some weird reason, it actually rained!!! so EVERYONE was trying to drift...but of course, there's only a few people actually can control the drift and drift smoothly...most people is just spinning outta control but still cool to watch!
as for the suspension, it helped A LOT!! however, the rest of my car is not keeping up with the suspension...tire not gripping enough, engine not fast enough...but overall, still a fun day.

Adding my .02 cents but here is sunny Florida its required by law for your insurance to replace a windshield that is cracked at no charge. No ifs ands or buts and they can't bitch about it. Now don't go telling them what you were doing at the time. I wouold look out to see if the same applies to Cali. :)

Yeah, I just read an account on the SoCal SERCA list. Turns out the SERCA guys where at Streets on Friday and Big Willow on Saturday. They were watching the drifting using binoculars.

Hey luke maybe I can help organize a better price for you. After all your american money is worth more over here.

Think about it and let me know, there is no reason for someone to pay 1000$ for a windshield replace and install. If you can get the windshield from here you`ll pay a lot less.

Did you try scottsdale infiniti? They'll give you 25% off. If you say you're on the se-r mailing list.

how much can you canadians get it for?

zykotik
07-09-2001, 01:51 PM
If yours is a 99 I can get one for 366.67$ Canadian tax included. I can score that from a place called DURO they specialize in auto glass. I guess we`d need a way to ship tho`.

oh, thanks shaun...but i kinda want to go with OEM glass...but thansk for the help though!

zykotik

Yup I sure do. I`ll be doing an auto to manual conversion on a P10 with the tranny and stuff from an NX2000..I want to see the performance of that (and get paid for the job) first cuz if it`s worth it I`ll be swappin my tranny for an NX box too.

BTW I called a local stealership 942.22 + tax for the windshield.

Hey what do they make em out of? that`s expensive. However I think thats good for you because that quote is in CDN funds.

Luke,
There's got to be some way you could get insurance to pay for it.
(leave out the race track part though)

You probably still have to pay deductible, so that is probably $500, you are saving a few bucks still though, because the insurer should cover installation, right?

I wonder if that might affect your rates though... I think it shouldn't, because nothing you did caused your windshield to crack, other than driving "normal highway speeds"

good luck

In NZ here most of the insurance company's offer you a windshield for a extra $20 a year or a free one at some places.

When you get a WOF the window cant have any cracks or large stone chips so we go though quite a few here.

Have you asked or have any thing like that in the USA ?

Same as my post earlier.. Progressive had to replace my window not once, but twice in one year due to rocks busting my windshield.. try it out.
