street tires (if you want to call them that). had to turn down the gain so it wouldn't spool too fast because i had major traction issues in 1st and 2nd gear. best time was acheived shortshifting 1st at 6k so i wouldn't spin them through 2nd.

looking to get out later this year with some weight reduction, slicks, 50 more whp and a better track.

Yeah, that's pretty badass, you'll have to be carefull with slicks that you don't snap your driveshaft.

or launch too high... yes, i don't think i can launch over 5k because at this point my tranny, diff, axles and driveshaft may start to give out.

i am spending today on weight reduction lol.. bumper support is going and sound deadoning is half gone. need to touch up a few things but im pretty happy with the run :) i really would like to trap 120 eventually.

took off bumper support, anything attached to the front bumper (another 10 lbs or so) and front sound dedoning. next step is dry ice and getting off the rest of the sound dedoning throughout the car. it already feels quite a bit faster!

Chuki_breath
04-10-2005, 06:00 PM
yea when you do the dry ice thing, can you tell me how it goes or post it up so all of us know. I was going to do that this summer, but my uncle insits on using an air hammer. He thinks it should break right off since its so old. I was like well then why in the hell would people use the dry ice or heat gun trick, im sure alot of people would of thought to use an air hammer. I dunno we'll see though i may try it. He hasnt seen what the actual shit looks like either, he may change his mind once he see's it. Plus i dont wanna end up running the air hammer through the floor boards lolololol i dont think i would, but god damn you can cut a car in half with one.

dry ice is cheap down here i can get it at grocery stores and i think wal mart. and you rub the dry ice on the sound deadening stuff and it just cracks right off. it makes life a lot easier. and its pretty cheap. why do u need dry ice july 4th?

man, don't worry too much about taking all the sound deading stuff and what not off. You know that old rule, "Every 100 lbs= a tenth of a second."

Well hot rod did a little bit kind of like the myth busters on discovery channel to try to prove that saying right. Well to make a long story short, it too almost 400 lbs of weight removal to pick up a tenth of a second on a stock camaro (or mustang, I can't remember) I know I went to the track once and I had removed about 150-170 lbs (easy to do with a Buick :p ) and I neither picked up times or MPH.

Now I realize that they were not using a car like yours but, weight it weight and it is all relavent to times. Just a thought.

BADD ASS TIMES!!!!

sidewayzS13
04-13-2005, 11:28 AM
could it involve how much weight you are already working w/ that would determine if 100lbs shaves off time or not? i mean 100lbs taken off is a lot more weight for a 2000lbs car compared to a 3500lbs car.

mynismo
04-13-2005, 12:24 PM
exactly, when you are dealing with lighter cars, a 100 lbs can actually shave off more than .1 sec. i have noticed improved acceleration and handling in my old car that had a good 200 lb weight reduction, it was crazy. this car still has a little bit to go to get as light as my old one.

i need 120mph traps, so i can claim a 10 sec trap :)

not sure if it makes a difference, but i forgot to say that my front tires were completely bald. i just got some 225/50 for the front, that might make a little difference as well since the front tires usually have to be as stiff as you can get them.

Ya he raced me, ive got a stock 92 240 5spd, and for some reason couldnt get it into 3rd for a couple of races but when i did i was runnin 16s, my best was a 16.1 ive still got the slip to prove it if anyone wants ta see. Hey mynismo we should hook up some time and lay it down on the streets, where in OH do you live, im from brunswick...and yes i agree that track was a terrible track, are you going to High School Nationals this year down in Norwalk?

PM me some detailes about these dry ice bombs. and damn lots of mods checkin this thread out . i better tread lightly. blu civic that is a badass sig

Chuki_breath
04-13-2005, 08:57 PM
yea that sig is cool. I would hope a couple hundred pounds would improve a 240's speed. The s13 front end shaves 25 lbs compared to our flip up lights correct?? I thought i read that somewhere. Not saying that 24 lbs is gut wrenching, but if people are serious about weight reduction and still want a good looking car they maybe interested in that.

yes i have a hard time getting it into third in my maxima, for some reason everyone misses gears over at 42... prolly all the bumps going on. im in seven hills not too far away, but we come up to brunswick every now and then and meet at backstreet performance in medina, you should come up some time. im too old to go to high school nationals and i graduated almost three years ago, unless i can make something up.

pm or email me [email protected], i may be up in medina today or tomorrow.

i managed to save 50 lbs from removing trunk area (10 lbs), bumper support (20 lbs), bumper attachments (10 lbs), sound dedoning (10 lbs). hoping the hatch will save 25 lbs or so and a hood will save roughly 25 lbs. 100 lbs gone :) still have much more room to play with.

november-ice
04-14-2005, 01:32 PM
btw dry ice should go 1.75-2.50 a lb id get 3lb or so to hold on to it and that should get you atlest 5-6 hours working time with it

um where gloves or its instant frost burnage

and if your in tight places and breathing realy close to the dry ice take a brake every 3-4 min to get some air

AWDSR20
04-14-2005, 02:35 PM
i used a chizzl and a hammer yo..works well, looks bad! and yeah..100 is not much for 1/4 stuff as for handling. lighter car (especially in the front, will make the car more nimble)

Chuki_breath
04-15-2005, 01:00 AM
lol that would be funny if you passed out giving your car some weight reduction. WHat happend, "i cant remember its all a blur" lol, the dry ice knocked my ass out bwahahhahaha. I could see some idiot doing that. But i thought there was alot more than 10lbs of that sound deadner shit. Did you take it all out?? What about the back seat, thats gotta be a good 20-30 lbs maybe??? I want to strip my car out to the bare as metal and have the ugliest interior in the state of missouri!!!!! Definantly not woman friendly.....

What is the sound deadeniing stuff?

car are loud inside when driving...to make the ride more quiet manufactures put sound deadening material inside...kinda like when stereo people put dynomat inside their trunk...but ride in a civic and then ride in a lexus...ride is a whole lot quieter b/c the lexus has more sound deadening material...comes in the form of sprayed on layers, foam, or like thick sheeted material

Nice run, sorry i a lil late, a bit on a slow side (not mentaly though lol).
Kind of funny how you rounded off the MPH to the higher digit (correct) 116.86~117, but rounded the time to a lower number (wrong) 12.697 is way closer to 12.7 rather then 12.6, only .003, unlike .097.
I don't mean to be an ass just pointed it out cause it is kind of funny, I might have done the same lol.

you always do that with slips.... like if you run a 11.999, its still an 11 sec run, not a 12 sec run. i take it you don't go to the track that much.

sound dedoning was only taken out of front by firewall. that's it. im guessing another good 15 lbs throughout the rest of the car. after its all out im laying dynamot throughout the whole car, im going and buying me 72 square feet and going to town

Hit_N_Run-player
