how much would something like this cost?

thats what im looking at getting and i was wondering about how much would a repair part+labor on this kinda engine/car would this cost me? and does it sound fishy or what?thanks

Well, you should be able to get a used engine from a salvage yard for less than $500 and install it yourself in a couple of days. Assuming you have the know-how, tools, and a hoist. I'm just guessing it to be a 10-15 hour job and guessing again, the shop rate is like 50/hour. $900-1300 would not be absurd for a used engine install.

I stated in another post that I replaced my manual gearbox recently. Before I did it I called around to some different shops to see what they would charge to install a new or reconditioned gearbox. The lowest I found on that was $3900 for all parts and labor. I put a used one in myself and it cost $300 + tax + $100 core charge. Total expense was like $320. Fix it yourself; its cheaper unless you could be doing something else with your time that pays more than $50/hr.

Unless I've got lots of money and/or I'm a good mechanic/tuner/body-man/etc. I'm not going to buy a car that needs a lot of work right from the get-go.

Sounds fishy to me. I'd pull it apart and inspect myself before spending any money. What engine is this on anyways? What car? Info please...

Hopefully we're talking about an S13, S14 or S15. If we're talking about an Eclipse, I still welcome questions, opinions and offer advice, but we're in the wrong forum and seeing that I have no eclipse to tinker with my knowledge in this field is limited.

sorry i forgot i cut that part out of the post, its an 89 240sx with the CAengine in it from the 180sx.and the reason im asking is because i got so frustrated just trying to do the headgasket on my car(eclipse) because chrysler puts shit together all kinds of fucked up.the labor hours is like 10-11 for a damn gasket,and no i dont have all the tools to do it myself. the headgasket was pushin my limits and it didnt need the hoist and all that =P

Headgaskets on most cars are a day job at least. Just be glad you don't have a V type engine.lol

Why do you think you need a new crankshaft if that did happen? The bolts are probably what broke. Flywheels are pretty tough in general from the factory. You'll probably just have to do a little tinkering to get the broken off bolts out.
