SES light thrown with CAI

I put in a wizaired cold air intake and the SES light came on with the P0113 code (Intake Air temperature circuit high input). I have lost count how many times i have checked to make sure the sensor is mounted correctly in the grommet in the intake tubing. Also after driving around for awhile the sensor feels hot to the touch. Has anybody else had this problem or have any suggestions on what to do?

It's only a thermistor, a temperature affected resistor. Use a multimeter and check that it still has resistance, sounds like one of the prongs/legs may be broken on the resistor side, not connector side.

I agree. With the engine cold and off the IAT sensor may read somewheres around 1.2 to 2.0K ohms. After warming up the engine, the sensor will probably read less than 1K ohms and go more towards zero. In another words, when the temperature is low the resistance is higher and when temperature is higher the resistance is lower. But if it is out of spec the ECU/PCM will generate the DTC error.

May we ask? What car or you doing this work to. GTP, GT ?????????
Any mods besides the CAI? Every litttle bit helps.
Thanks

I have a GT, and just started mods. I put in the wizaired CAI and the zzp HV TB as my first mods. Next I'm going to put in the DHP PCM and the 180 thermostat. I also put in the bosch +4's when I bought the car from a private seller and before I decided to start modding my car. I plan on changing those soon.

I created a signature with all the info on my car and will be putting it on all my posts from now on. To directly answer your question, its a 2001 pontiac grand prix gt, 3.8 liter normally aspirated.
I'll check and post the resistance of the IAT sensor tomorrow afternoon FYI.

Taht motor should handel that box. New CPU will help also. But I think your replaceing the sensor.
Let us know.

I took the reading and got 2.7k ohms for the resistance after driving for awhile. I'm not quite sure what to make of that reading.

I agree with KustomKid. Got a bad IAT sensor. That resistance reading is probably too high. Where are you located and what is the air temperature? The DTC error code corresponds to the fault of high resistance.

I'm in El Paso, TX. Air temperature is a little cooler at 62 degrees. Just to give you an idea and you be the judge, I checked resistance of IAT on my '97 GTP with Trasher CAI and a stock 99 Regal LS with Series II 3800. After running the engine and shutting off within 5 minutes I measured the IAT resistance. Both were below 2.0 k ohms. Your 2.7 K ohms appears to be high for 70 degrees.
BTW - My younger brother is an Texas A&M Aggie and a Petro Engineer.
I know College Station well.

GO ARMY! Former Army Air Defense Artillery, CWO3, MOS 223B.
Got out in '85 after Vietnam and Cold War era. Have a son who is a Cadet at USMA West Point. Our '97 GTP is his but just sitting in the
garage because they can't have their cars until the junior (cow) year.
In the meantime, I'm shopping around for some exhaust mods to include headers. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info KustomKid54. About $700.00 for headers and $600.00 for rest of exhaust system. I'll check out the links.
HAWK - Home & wife killer or holiday & weekend killer....lol
Yeah! started out as a 24F - Basic Hawk Fire Control (PAR, BCC, ROR & IFF) in 1972 at Ft. Bliss. Stuff couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.
It's a small world. The newer Patriot is probably worse, though. Glad I got out a long time ago. I even pulled a 3 year stint with Raytheon in Saudi Arabia back in the late 80s.
My father was Nike down at Homestead AFB during the Cuban missile crisis. Man, I loved Florida.
Well, nice chatting.

I went to Homestead after Korea. -55 the day I left. Went to Fla. 85 the day I got there.
Taken care of my Mother-in-Law. I HATE FLORIDA.............
Remind me to tell you about the day we fired at the Yellow Sea. You'll get a kick out of it. Barn, couldn't hit the farm.
Good luck
