Well my pal finaly got himself a vr4 a fine looking vehicle 95model with 60k's on it. it had a cool body kit on and alot of mods. turbotimer, air intake, open exhaust, boost controller with bigger injectors and pump and 3 apexi computers...... as i hadnt driven a vr4 for quite some time or about 2 years, so i convince him to let me take it for a spin and here's the resault
i sit down in the leather seats they felt great they realy dont give anything to the memmories these are probably the most comfortable sports seats i have been in.
welll i began to drive. first of it feels realy heavy not the way it moves but just the feel of the body itself. well i find a good runway and give it a good wot and it launches like a pro. then when i got to about 35-45mph the 4wd and high weight of the car seem to take their toll as the car seems to accelerate at a wery similar pace as a SL wuld do.
as i was very curious as to the power of this car i found the new owner of my old Firebird Convertible as that car felt a whole lot faster than the vr4 and we had a race. the VR4 won the race then we tried to race from a rolling start and the firebird took the trophy
well after this night i there were mixed feelings about the vr4 as this car is great value for money and sure does perform when it is pushed. but as a crusing car i wuld pick the firebird as it seed to be fast all the time not only when i am slamming the accelerator.
but then again it is faster than the firebird but i did not enjoy it as much as a crusing machine
Im not trying to start arguments this is just my take on this car that i drove . maybe something was wrong with it or maybe it just is like this i dont know but you out there that feel differently are welcome to make coments and critisize or even tell me their opinion! but dont make coments on my spelling :nono:

weird as how you thought it would pull like an SL after 35-45. At that speed my car takes off like a rocket...and it's stock. (except for a FIPK).
with that car and mods, it should be faster than what it sounds like in your post. is it running 14.5 psi? with an S-AFC and bigger injectors it and a BC it should be much faster.

yes i was it culd be a bit more than a sl i was not exaactly thinkig to much about it i was going very fast. but the broblem with tese cars is that they are faster than they feel. the car has wery good performance and specialy cornering. this car is still on my top 5 list of i want one of thoes. the experiance was just a bit different than i remember. there was a slight problem with the apexi computer the car lost a bit of power at about 6000rpms

My car does that, but its because as soon as I hit full boost it studres and looses power, the plugs that were put in are .05 too wide and crappy cheep bosch ones.. pluss they're all dirty as heck.

Yeah idk, something might be wrong w/ ur buddys car...check the sig for the same comparison you did, except it was a TT Stealth that I drove...that thing ripped through the first 3 gears and gave me the same feeling as my Formula 350 does off the line...only throughout the power band. And from a 40 roll I literally had to hang on to the steering wheel or I would've been thrown back.

i see you were comparing a 3 gen firebird. i was using a 4gen lt1.
The VR4 is a realy fast car and is one of my most wanted. even thoug in my opinion they dont feel as fast as they realy are maybe its the 4wd i dont realy know. i have heard people talk about this before.
I have been thinking of geting rid of my stealth and get a VR4 or a Transm Am. they both have their strong an week points like the VR4 has a enormous weight problems and a very high fuel consumption level. the Trans Am has reliability problems but is more economical. now even though the VR4 is fairly reliable it is a nightmare in many cases when something brakes.

Um, a vr4 especially a modded one at that should wipe the floor with an lt1, especially a convertible at that.
2) A vr4 only weighs a few hundred lbs more than a ws6, if even that. And definantly consume about the same amount of fuel.
I think your buddy's vr4 needs a tuneup or has major boost leaks.

the 3k gt won with ease from a stoped position but on a roll it was a well balanced race
the vr4 is still a 1710kg monster and a stick shift firebird formula non convertible is only 1540kg if i remember right so there is a near 400 pound differance
as for consuption goes i have heard from you guys on this forum that a decent milage on a VR4 on a highway is 17 mpg well i got my convertible formula aoutomatic to about 23mpg and my buddy ownes a stick shift and got it to 28.5....... what city driving is concerned im not shure the mpg's on a vr4 but i am guessing about 14.5+ mpg. the lt1 shuld go down to some 16-17 at least.
but anyway i wuld like to se thoes two cars race a 1/4 mile together and see how much differance there is on these cars.
Oh yea there is of course i feature on the VR4 wich is a strong selling point for me, that is of course the 4wd! becouse being stationed in iceland 4WD means i can drive all year round.

on your new car? there must be nearly no stoplihts in our town as i am geting around 260-290 miles a tank and thats with the sohc engine. if you are geting 320 miles on a tank you must drive the car like a old woman (no offence).
either that or wuld you be willing to share your secret?

I get 270-290 miles per tank around town, and 360 on highway (usually 90+mph the entire time). The 2 times that I had to drive highway without boost and used the cruise control at normal speeds (50-65mph) it looked like I could hit 500+ on one tank.

ok there must be something wrong with my car:) i of course tend to give it a good bashing every now and again though. i thougt there was no cruize control on stick shift cars
i have been told by vr4 owners that one good 1/4 race is like flushing a toilet for the gastank

by the way im hearing the car is riced out...
body kit and stuff (nasty)
way it seams that the guy before was all look no go. but still thinking he was cool ragged the hell out of it... so its a stock car thats has been ragged on. meaning its messed up.

the car is suposed to be in good condish i was just talking to the guy and there are some adjustmenst that have to be made to the apexi computer. this car has nearly no rice parts exept for the bomex front bumper. it has:
intake system.
new injectors.
new fuel pump.
turbo timer.
exhaust system (dont know how much but at least the muffler has been fited with a farter
there are 3 apexi computers wich i have no clue as to what they do.
i am a bit baffled still how a 1710kg/320hp car can beat a car wich is 1540kg/305-320hp (ls1)

well probaly the jump at the line...
or mitsu distribute the hp to the awd just perfect to carry the weight right...
there is many explanations...
PLUS transams and cammaros weight much more than 3000gts... i dont know kgs, but in lbs a 3000gt weight is 3600-3700
and transams are about 4000lbs +
i have argued this over the forums before with people say other wise. but i have a vr4 and my mom has a 2002 LS1 trans am and my step dad has a 1997 LT1 Formula firebird and they are heavy
i looked in the owners manual.

I used to get 20-22 mpg city, and around 30 highway, and I deff wasnt light footed. As far as the 1710kg car beating a 1540kg car, from a roll they will be pretty even, but from a stop we have the traction advantage, and the ls1 then has to play catch up. A lot more goes into how fast a car is than the weight and what its max hp is. There is gearing, traction, the look of the powerband(if looking at a dyno).

my old formula convertable was lighter than a vr4.
the trans am's non convertable are about 1540kg's thats around 3100punds
talskinguy you are right the stock differential on a lt1 is 2.71 if i rememder corectly and on 3.47 on the vr4. that makes the 3000gt have a considerably lower drive differential
