I need a new clutch on my 97 ford ranger 4.0L. I went out and bought a clutch kit. We want to put it in ourselves (hopefully) Has anyone had any experiences putting one in? Any tips? suggestions? Thanks

I just installed one on my '93 3.0. I didn't have much trouble removing the old clutch once we'd dropped the transmission, but the most aggravating thing that we ran into was the so-called "quick disconnect" fitting on the hydraulic line. There is a plastic collar around the fitting that has to be pushed in all the way to release the fitting. There is a tool made to do it, but it didn't work especially well on mine. You might also have trouble breaking loose the bolts on the exhaust crossover if they are really rusty. I hosed mine down with penetrating oil and let them sit overnight before I tried them. Good luck.

good tips, here's some more, make sure you turn the flywheel, check the pilot bearing, replace the throw out bearing, make sure the disc goes in right, clean everything with brake cleaner, tighten in a criss cross pattern, use loc-tite on the flywheel and pressure plate bolts, use the alighenment tool.i know alot of folks know this but some don't.and always follow tq specs.good luck and happy motoring
