'94 Cherokee TCM problem?

OK - limp mode has set in...changed out the speed sensor - that did nothing. Called the local tranny-rip joints...all said rebuild for $1500-2200...no diagnostics needed. Bought a used AW4 with less than 75K and installed it today...same stinking problem..so my flow chart now says "Bad TCM"...do I pay the tranny guys $65 to confirm my guess or do I replace the TCM? I know it was really not bright to buy another tranny and take all day to pull and replace, but it beats getting ripped by someone else. I can't see TPS being at fault and don't believe that the original and the used would both have the same solenoid problem...what else but the TCM?

If the cost of the part is not much greater than the repair shop cost I'd replace the thing anyway. Whats the harm other than a 100 bucks or so. Any way that initial 65 dollars is just to get you in the door. If you make it out of there without spending $250 I'd be surprised.
But I think you've got other hidden problems. Maybe a bad ECM...

Thanks for the quick reply - I have a buddy who is going to hook me up with a TCM...he does Mopar tranny work for a dealer...if it works, it takes 10 minutes and maybe a hundred bucks...if not , we will try the ECM but he doesn't think it goes beyond the TCM. He says the only things to go wrong are the solenoids but the lchances of both the old and the new-used tranny having the same defect are very limited, tyhen the speed sensor - which is now ne, the TPS -which is 1:1000, and most likely the TCM. It is too old to use a OBDII so the best way is to plug in a new TCM. I'll let you know. I've got the wiring diagram saved if anyone wants them.
