I love electronics...it's my thing. And in all the systems i've put in for people, i've never done something this stupid. But i did it today and now i'm lookin for some suggestions. For some reason, i put the rear speaker leads into the outputs of the amp that i was wiring. So the wires that were supposed to go to the subs, went to the rear speakers, and vice versa. So when i turned on the system the speakers were buzzin and i knew i screwed up. I obviously figured out right away what the problem was.....that i was a moron! So here's the question, what did i do. Now the headunit, which is factory, turns on and appears to work fine, but there's no sound anywhere!! i think i fried the head unit by sending a charge back through the speaker wires. what do you think??? any suggestions would be appreciated before i buy this person a new head unit.

What year make and model car was it. I assume you are not talking about your car as you said "buy this person" so that info might help to answer the question better. Lord knows Ive FUBARed my fair share of systems that I may be of help.

A few things I can suggest is to check all the fuses. Im sure you already did that but just in case check them all. Last time I did something like this the best thing I found to do was put everything back to stock. Im not saying reinstall the stock speakers and everything Im just saying disconnect all the after market stuff and reconnect all the stock stuff. That way you can have a good base to work with. When back to stock if everything works fine you know you either blew out the amp, fried some wires that where ran for the after market stuff or you will at least have a fresh start to get everything back to cool.

On an edit note, I know this probly isnt a whole lot of help but there is only so much I can do without actually being there and getting my head into everything. All I can do is hope some of this is of use to you in your time of need.

i'm pretty sure the amp is fine...no charge was sent through the amp. the charge was sent back through the speaker wires.

Might get a better response in the Car Audio section, they have some real audiophiles in there. If you still don't know whats going on I could move this thread for you.

Let me know

I eventually figured it out. Appears I didn't do any damage. Just needed to switch the rear speaker inputs. They were shorting out all the speakers. Thanks though!
