Squealing Belt

My '97 GA 2.4L just started squealing. the belt looks dry and is fairly new( couple months). that is the same with the alternator too. the only thing i can think of now if the tensioner. andy ideas would be helpful. thanks Ben

update to the problem. the a/c compressor pulley is moving back and forth so im pretty sure thats the problem. unfortunately this sucks.

ayep, if a pulley wobbling, [not the tensioner], sigh, there's the problem.

Sadly, it not covered in most manuals, the "reg.'s" state that, cuz the risk and refrigereant leaking into atmosphere, etc., etc.

One thing that may ease the pain is to ask for a rebuilt compressor unit over factory replace. As far as I know, the pulley and shaft are integral to the compressor, and can't be separate-replaced, so you may be looking at another comressor.

now it looks as though the pulley is fine so idk what to do about it. the squealing has stopped too.

Then just keep close eye on it. wiggle the pulley in-and-out, see if it will move in a horizontal direction to the ground,that direction. Don't horse it, lol, but see if it has horizontal
play in the pulley-shaft assembly that contacts the belt.

If it doesn't move much, I'd just keep an eye on it, as long as it rotates freely, ya okay, but if ya get the "slop" horizontal, it is starting to go, and better keep close watch, sooner or later, it will freeze and then OUCH!!!

Hey Knife, I've been told that there is a clutch rebuild kit for the A/C clutch have you heard anything about this, I've got a chatty clutch and if I can get away with a rebuild over a new/rebuild compressor, for now A/C works fine just noisy at times.

If any one else has heard of this rebuild kit for GM A/C clutch I'd love the input.

There is a rebuild kit, but honestly, I wouldn't try it!!!

1] have to deal with refrigerant hose disconnect and loss and pressure release

2] still have to pull the compressor out of car

3] have to disaseemble the A/C compressor to repair

It, in my opinion, is best to get a remanufactured unit and let apro install it, cuz of the refrigerant hassle.
