transmission in limp mode

I am posting for a friend. He has a 1993 concorde with the 3.3L engine, and the transmission has been in limp mode for months now. He has taken it to a few transmission shops, and a dealership. None of them have been able to fix his car. I'm reading up on chryslers and it seems there is some type of sensor failure problem that sets the tranny into limp mode. My friend thinks that all the shops and dealerships are jacking him around because he's black..lol. Anyway, I told him it sounds like something electical or just a sensor that went bad, and sure enough I found that this is a common problem. Do you think it could be anything else wrong? Please let me know, as he is considering just tripping the car of his audio stuff and then arranging an "accident" so he can get rid of the car. Its nice though, black and leather, with perfect paint. I'd hate to see him loe it over something stupid like a sensor.

Tell him to relax and Find out what the code is that made the trans go into limp mode in the first place. Try to find out what exactly happened . Plus, why didi he drive it for that long in limp mode. He will be lucky if second is still any good. Tell him to have it scanned at the trans shop or try a parts store. It could be in limp mode due to a bad speed sensor or a bad soleinod pack. It could even have to be flashed by the dealer.

Well I changed both the input and output speed sensors and that didn't do the trick, the car is still in limp mode. Any other suggestions on what could be tried?

did you find out if there were any codes stored in memory?

The car never had a service light come on, so I never checked for a service code.

The Check Engine light will only light for Engine related issues, not the Transmission, you need to go to a dealer or shop that can scan the TCM (Transmission Control Module) for any fault codes stored in it.

I have the same problem. No error codes. No speedometer problems. You think that there might be a problem in solenoid pack?

My 2003 Chrysler Concorde Limited locks into "Limp-in mode" when slowing down to around 25 miles or less (or starting up above 25 miles after a sucessful slow down w/o a "Limp-in lock-up")
This ONLY happens after the car is warm (like driving around for more than 10 miles or 10 mins).
Coming to a complete stop, placing trans in Park and restarting the engine removes it from "Limp-in lock-up" until the next time that I have to slow down to a stop.
The Trans shop pulled the codes (P1776? My memory may not be correct, but they said the code was for the Low/reverse sensor/solenoid thingy) and said that it was the Valve Body (associated L/R solenoid thingy) and replaced said part for about $800.00.
This did not fix the problem.
They are now telling me that the clutches are worn thin and need to be replaced claiming that is why the car shutters (THOUGH it does not shutter and they did not experience any shuttering whatsoever) and now want $1200.00 to replace the clutches...

I found another post that says to try adding a ground wire from the Neg post of your battery to the transmission body. Even if the ground straps on the car look OK. It cured his limp mode problem.
