my old friend was a audiophile and his chevy s10 had some extreme bass..well it rattled and sounded shitty, til he put on a nice layer of dynamat on the inside..no vibration just nice boom. I'm sure it would work just as well for your hatch as it did for his truck so i say go for it.

i was thinking of doing dynamat (well not necessarily 'dynamat'.. i was thinking brown bread or fat mat or something) under my door panels and in my hatch cuz im gonna be getting my sub in soon.
i think i may just skip it and see how bad it rattles. i think my sub will pound so hard that i wont be able to hear much. my car rattles like crazy with just upgraded speakers...

the less road noise you have the louder you speakers will seem. only on the inside though.

thats scary, but i am almost positive that with proper preperation and a heat gun it will not come off..........

Hey all I have an 1988 CRX Si I bought a Dynamat trunk kit $60.00 well worth it, installed it about 2 1/2 years ago. applied it over the entire bottom of the car in the back, 60% percent of the walls & some of the rear part were the storage bins are.
Im running 2 punch power dvc's about 1000rms 2 each sub, the only rattle I get is a little from my license plate.
So to sum it up it is worth it.
I still have to do the doors & the roof & the firewall.
After that It should be as quite as a church & should be able to hear a mouse fart! :screwy:

i agree 1000 percent.. noise dissapeared after i put some dynamax around my trunk. the only thing is that its heavy..adds up weight to your car.

I've been told by two dealers around here that they wont sell dynamat because when the weather changes alot of the time it fall off. So basically if you put it on during summer it falls on in the winter vice versa

what you think is going to keep that stuff on edead is just not as good as every one thinks i have used half and half. the dynamat didn't come off i can't even pull it off the edead just comes off and yes i put it on right i heat'd the hole car and the stuff i had 4 2500 watt heater's.

My father used Dynamat in his S15 when he was big into car audio. He swears by it. I'm kinda not sure if I'm going to keep my car yet, but I just got a sound system in it and may dynamat the entire thing. (Thinking about a hatchie, if I go that route I'll do everything to the hatchie and sell the sedan)

the weight and the cost are the two things that have kept me from getting any dynamat, but the road noise inside my crx is SO bad... and i need to figure out how to resecure the carpet all around anyway, so i figure i could get some for all over the floor and nip this problem in the butt, but it's so heavy and expensive.

IS it really THAT heavy, i havent any experience or contact with materials such as these. so i wouldnt know

that is only true if you slap it onto a dirty surface area...and that applies for any sticky application on a dirty area
my hubby is MECP cert. worked in a stereo shop 7 yrs. if you ask him he'll give you the thumbs up on dynomat

it will be added weight but c'mon, you aren't lining your car with lead. it's like rolling around with the comforter off your bed. go to your local stereo shop and ask them to show you what they have. chances are they will have a dynomat display that will show you the difference (sound wise) with and without...then they should put some in your hand to show you it is reasonable in weight

So dynamat will keep the road noise out also or does it just stop the vibrations?
89si
04-13-2005, 09:23 PM
i believe it does both quite efficiently. it is a kind of insulation, so it helps to absorb vibration, thereby stopping it from transfering from the speaker to doorpanels, etc. at the same time it also reflects sound back into the car and deadens sound coming at the car from outside.
i wouldnt mind getting at least my doors done cuz i get some intense rattling going on all over them, from the window cranks to the door handles, it all shakes like crazy with the alpine 6.5's in there. once i get my sub in i'll hafta decide whether i should get my hatch done as well. i'll need a license plate kit too cuz those things are loud when they shake.

Good one dipshit. Come back with a better one next time.
I have actually heard that weather shield, used by roofing contractors, is very similar to dynomat, and lots cheaper.

Yea, stockinteriors.com offers sound deadener/heat insulation type shit. Pretty cheap but i havent heard anything or know anyone who has used it. Ive thought about layin some down when i install my new carpet/interior. My car is rediculously fucking loud with no interior. AActually with the b16 now its loud with or without. Expecially on the highway.

the material you are referring to is called peel and seel, it is very cheap but is notorious for falling off the surface within months........as for dynamat reducing road noise, it does to some degree but really isn't meant for road noise.......vinyl, lead or closed cell foam elevated above
adding constraint layer dampers like dynamat extreme will only do so much for air borne sound (road noise). 3-5 layers would need to be added to get the results that some companies claim. liquid dampers are much better at reduceing airborne sound, and the barriers are very efficiant at reflecting the frequencies that pennitrate the damper. and most of all dynamat is very overpriced, for deadener these are great sites: www.edesignaudio.com, www.secondskinaudio.com, or even www.ebay.com.
