Hey all;

Im working on knowing about engines and i eventually want to do a rebuild on either my talon or my next car. I know alot about engines, and I been able to help lots of people with their problems.

I had a co-worker come up to me today and say that he needs a new engine. I ask him what the problem is, and he says that someone at Midas said he needed one. Apparetly, one of his friends took his car racing, and now there's a metal-hitting-metal sound coming from the engine. Like a piston rod hitting a piston, or a piece clunking around inside. He also said there's a lack of performance, like he's missing a cylinder. He drives a 93? Thunderbird V6. Would it be hard to fix something like that? I should just be able to rip off the head and pull a piston out and fix it, right? I know its not that easy, but close? I figure if he want to go thorugh with it, would it be worth it? I want some experience so when I actually PULL my engine, it'll go quicker. Thanks guys.

Ford Thunderturkey ehhhh? Sounds like he spun a bearing. Lots more work than just pulling the head and pan and trying to replace one part. Likely the entire engine will need to be torn down and re-built, given that there isn't any major internal damage to the block. Total waste of money.

Best way to tell, tear that head off and see if hes still got all his vavles in good.

So, it's probably not worth trying?

Ill see what he wants to do.

Does anyone have an estimate on how muchg bearings would be, or pistons or pistons rids? Thanks

unless you know exactly what you're doing, i wouldn't recommend it. you'll have to pull the motor and tear down the whole engine and do a complete re-build. he'd be better off just buying a different one.

i would recommend that he buy a engine you help him put it in and you tear down the old one just to check it out :biggrin:

I agree, if you spin a bearing you shoot metal throughout the entire engine. I'm rebuilding my 4g63 motor right now because of the same problem.
