I wanted to see how many fellow AF'ers own, or have owned a Caprice. Post a pic of your ride if you have one. I will be posting pics of mine soon.

Also, if anyone needs info on caprices, 90-93. I may be able to help, as I own the shop manuals for those years. :p

Id love to chat with some other owners of these great cars. Hope to see some posts in here :D

 btw, a BIG thanks to Igor for adding this forum. Thanks :)

I've had 2 Caprices. My first car was a '78 Caprice, underpowered 305 and high-way gears. A few years later I owned a '77, blew the diffy out of that one:D

Hey, ghost-ss I recognize you from gmforums.com (http://gmforums.com)

Im rich91 on those boards, although I rarely post there, I mostly only read. Nice to see another face over here :)

BTW, I love your car, I wish I had the time and money to fix mine up like that.

Thanks Rich, I recognize your GM Forum username! And thanks for the compliments!

"Ghost" was already taken, so I had to settle for "Ghost-SS." I'm "ghost" in all the other forums though {ISSCA, NAISSO, EFI-STREET, CamroZ28, LT1 TECH, etc.}.

I've had the car since '97 and did a bunch of mods initially, but the engine swap, trans buildup, rear end work and headers didn't happen until I got divorced. :D

Ever heard the phrase, "I once was where you are now and where I am you soon shall be" ?

The nice thing about doing mods slowly is that it really give you a chance to plan it out. How will this mod work with the others? What's holding my car back after this next mod?

It's all part of the modding fun. :)

I'm not sure if I'm in a right place so...
I need a power window regulators for my 1992 Caprice 9C1
(former Fire Cheef Car). Body shop persone estimated $260
for the assembly for the driver side widow, just for the parts.
I actualy don't need the whole assembly, just a little plastic
slider.
Any input would be helpfull.

Thanks.

No problem. :)

If it's Caprice/Impala SS related, I've probably done it, or know where to find the info. Just let me know, I'm happy to help.

You can also email me directly (sometimes it takes a while before I get around to this forum):

Thanks man, reading a post like yours makes me feel good about the choices I've made and all the work I've done. :)

I think they're so badass because they're long and wide, and when lowered it just makes them look longer and wider. Plus you know it's got V8 power under the HUGE hood. People don't generally know they have LT1's in there, they just know the cops used to drive 'em therefore they have to be fast.

From the looks of your sig info, you don't have anything to sneeze at yourself. :D More power & less weight than my Caprice, I think we both know who'd win that race.

Yeah... the Nova is .. how you say.. A kick in the PANTS!
I havent had it at the track yet, I dont wanna show my face in a car thats still primered! haha plus she needs a bit of body work to be done, and interior work.

But my daily driver, a '86 Chevy Blazer K5 (fullsize, not any of that S-10 blazer crap that confuses so many people) Shes a bit of a slug when it comes to 'racing'. Of course you dont race a vehicle that weighs 5200lbs... But you can just... 'merge' into traffic when ever you feel like, what they gonna do? Yell at you? Go ahead. Yell at me. Boo whoo! Plus its a tank, so then again what are they gonna do? hahaha I love my truck, but its a gas hog. And trying to restore the Nova on a limited budget i need something a bit more economical. True the Caprices have big engines and the such, but they're alot more economical than my behemoth.

I found a '94 Caprice for sale $4500, its an ex-cop car with rebuilt (almost) everything, plus it has a pioneer stereo system and some other randoms im gonna try to check it out. Its a bit pricey, but its got some cool goodies. ($4500 is like, a jillion dollars to me hahaha)

This pic is from February but it looks about the same.
It has the og 305 ci w/ 207,348 original miles on it. Mostly factory except for CD player, rear axle from a 79 coupe deville(the posi went up and I couldn't afford to rebuild it at the time). Has an electric sunroof but for now does not open, I cannot find the rubber that goes on the glass itself because it is not factory so they don't have it. Originally it was a two-tone gray on top and dark brown on the bottom but the clear coat had faded and once I started fixing the dents I got tired of looking at spots. I recently rebuilt the front suspension as well as replaced the rotors and brakes, still needs an alignment though. Has a dark brown clothe interior which I intend to keep as is except for redoing the door panels in either vinyl or leather.
For the future I plan to get a set of 100 spoke chrome wire wheels with white walls and on day would like to install a simple 2 pump, 4 dump, 4 battery, 4 switch setup in her for fbss.

I've got a 1992 Caprice (No, not even a Classic). Damn I love that car! It's just a 305, but I've done a little bit to her. She's not stock. :ylsuper I finally got her dualed, nice 3" chrome tips on there, too. The pic is b4 the duals. Still no hubcaps/wheels, I drive too fast for hubcaps. :)
I love my boat. My dad had a 96 Impala SS, but some old bastard with Alzheimer's (sp?) ran a stop sign and totaled it. Moment of silence please. Thankyou. He's got a Silverado SS now though. Not a bad replacement, even though it's a truck.
Anyway, the reason I am writing this is to see if anyone knows where to go to get any good performance parts for the 1992 caprice. I'm wondering if a cold-air intake from a 92 Chev C/K 1500 would work on mine, since the engine is identical.

I have a fairly clean 92 caprice. Right now it is sitting on 15" smoothie rims with baby moom center caps. Tomorrow I plan to order new tires and rims. 255/50WR17 Conti Extreme Contact tires to be mounted on 17x8.5" Modera B52 rims. I am looking for a smoother ride, better handling around curves and over bumps, and a meaner looking stance in the driveway. This is a big jump for me and I would like any advice or comments suspention upgrading or neg or pos about my tire and wheel selection. This is my 1st full size chevy and my 1st computer so I can use all the help I can get.

Yeah, it is cool to come across a site like this! My Caprice is actually my girlfriends as she basically inherited it from her Grandmother back in late '98. It is a very well loaded (but not quite everythng), 1993 Caprice Classic LS with the 5.0L. She received it with only 27,000 miles on it in about 5 1/2 years. It was pretty much flawless with the exception of a filthy engine bay and in need of some overall detailing. It is now at almost 108,000 miles and has never looked better or run better. We have nothing but good things to say about the car and it runs pretty strong with only the slightest of mods. I need to check the VIN# once to see exactly what the colors are called - but it is a nice metalic tan color with tan leather interior. It is our "daily driver" as I also have a clean 1997 Ford F150 XLT and my baby (and garage queen), 1999 30th Anniversary WS6 Trans Am.
Anyway, great to come across this forum and look forward to chatting with you guys.

I am currently in the middle of changing out the "sliders" on the driver's door window and also need to reprogram one of my original factory remotes (if it was just the batteries and not the remote that actually died). The link above should take care of me on the sliders - but maybe someone can point me in the right direction on programming the remote. Thanks! Patrick

i have a 78 caprice classic wagon
its "light camel" on the top and "gold metallic" on the bottom it has a 350 and 150,000 miles
i bought it 15 months ago from the first owner's son who was selling it for him for $850
the worst part is the rusted frame i put a hole in it with a tire changing jack from a newer car.
ive repalced the power steering pump, the starter, and then the radiator broke around columbus day and the bottom trans cooler line the fitting was rusted to the line so that complicated things. so i didnt have enough money for a new radiator so i bought a radiator from a junkyard and it was broke in the same place so i called the junkyard. even though i knew theyd do nothing. and they said "we dont sell broken parts" so now i have to get another, i have enough for another junkyard one but i wont take the risk and on top of all that its cold now. theres more but i dont want to make this any longer.
that car can do it all... when it wants to
all summer i used it for work, hauling lots of stuff
i earned more than i paid for the car
and at night id go put the hurt on some ricers but
it usually worked the other way
im looking forward to when its fixed!

I have a 93 caprice. I built a new 5.0 with flat top pistons, ported and polished heads, roller lifters and rockers, slid in a LT1 cam, added MSD ignition and a little chrome. All new interior from carpet to headliner including seats upholstered, (got that new car smell again). Put in a new front end with brake assemblies. Working on the exterior now. It also has strobes in all four corners, wig wags, red and blues on front grill and back deck, 100 watt siren with PA plus the standard police radios. I am looking for a rear wheel disk brake system to replace the standard drum system now on the car. :smokin:

I currently own, and cannot drive due to electrical issues, a 1984 Caprice wagon, 305 4-barrel V8/700R4. This is a $325 car.

The last fullsize Chevy I owned was a 1978 Impala wagon (305/THM350, paid $160) and before that I had a 1980 Caprice sedan (267/THM350, paid $300).

I like cheap cars.

EDIT: I forgot one...I was once given (for free) a 1988 Caprice police package with no motor or transmission...never got around to putting a drivetrain in and it was impounded by the city I parked it in (Lancaster, Ohio)

Here's my 1982 sport coupe. Mostly stock, except no emissions stuff like cats (they were gone when I got it). Also, edelbrock intake manifold and dual exhaust. Note the baby moon hubcaps... those get lots of comments. Body is in sucky shape, but it runs and that's all that really matters.

Mine is a 1971 Kingswood Estate (that's what Chevy called the Caprice Estate before '73 - the wagons were RADICALLY DIFFERENT from the "trunked" versions from '71 - '76 and deserved different names!) 6-passenger, 402 big block, TH400, undergoing complete restoration. I also have a parts car, same year & model, no powertrain. I will have plenty of parts left over once the project is complete, in case anyone in this forum is into these big, old cars like I am and needs anything...

I have a 1990 white 9c1 Caprice. It has about a 161k miles on it. Original engine (5.7 L) and second transmission. Despite the years, it is holding up very well, requiring only small fixes for minor things. In the future, however, I plan to add duel mufflers (only has one right now but the frame is designed for two), add a push bar (still has holes from old one), new paint job (last one was crappy), and get the police scanner to work again.

Glad I found this board....hopefully you guys can help me out and ill try to help anyone else out when I can.
Im more of a truck guy myself but I bought my Cap a week ago for a commuter. My truck is about to hit 100k miles and I'd like to keep it under that for as long as I can...Anyway I fell in love with the car before I even got it home....I'd like to keep it stock for now, but when the engine goes Im gonna buy another driver and trick this car out...Shaved, black paint, bagged and all that good stuff...
I love the reaction I get in this car. It gets more attention than my Sierra on bags. And about 50% of the cops I pass wave at me....
Right now shes got some work to get done....I sanded down the surface rust on the rear quarters and repainted them....Replaced the steering column. Im replacing the distributor cap tommorow(got a real bad miss a couple days ago, I replaced plugs and wires, man thats a b*tch, but it was still there), and I replaced the outer tie rods.....Thatll get her thru inspection.
Do alot of police pckg Caps have cloth seats and carpet? Most of the ones Ive seen had vinyl backseat and rubber floors. I figure it was a take home car or something....Its pretty well optioned out. Anyway I love this car I just cant wait to get it back on the dam road...

"LT1 and 9C1 are one and the same as far as I know. Cop car with 5.7 Vette motor, I think."

Actually, a lot of 9c1s came with the 4.3 liter engine. Although caprices have a "corvette style" engine in them, they do not have a corvette engine in them. There are many differences between the two engines, even though they are both LT1s.

HLandin
06-03-2004, 09:47 PM
9C1 is just the general designation for Police Package Caprices, even before the LT1, back to to the L05 (5.7L) and L03 (5.0L) engines. LT1 engines are designed from the Corvette engine; however, the LT1 engine does not appear in Caprices until about '94. My 1990 Caprice is a 9C1 but has the L05 engine. So, LT1 and 9C1 are not the same thing.

The main site is here:

It was stolen. I worked for a local police department and thought it was safe where it was parked, in the parking lot across the street. Some one wanted revenge or something. I never saw it again. I loved that car more than my girl friend.

It was government grey. Super fast with center peice rims, no beuty rings or hub caps. It was called the grey ghost by many, my baby by me.

Man I loved that car. No telling what happened to it. Parted out, stripped, burned, crushed? Who knows. :(

I miss you baby.
