Hey guys.

Lately I have been going ape shit at the gas stations.
The cost is getting ridiculous and I can only expect it to get worst.
I just wanted to compare the difference in cost with some other blazer owners.

Last night it cost me $55 Canadian to fill the tank at 89.9c/L. . . . .they might as well kick me in the nuts on my way out.:nutkick:

I just dumped in 15 gallons....cost me $31.90 to do it this afternoon while out on lunch. It's either feed the truck or feed myself. Time to park it and walk to work in the mornings. ;)

That same 15 gallons costs me $35.38 in West Virginia. Have to give our wonderful government THEIR share of the money. $2.36 a gallon. Never thought I would see it this soon, and we will have much more of it soon. Time to take the freakin bus I think.

O yeah, my moped gets about 100km/ gallon. It takes $2.59 (premium) to fill her up for a few weeks and it's a ton of fun to ride for this gear head on a budget.

Haven't filled up the tank on my jimmy in about 7 weeks (and happy about it). The gas prices here in Lansing were about 40 cents cheaper then...

$2.25 for mid grade (89 octane) here in So. Il. They try to trick us by putting the 89 oct. on top then 87 oct. in the middle at $2.30 and 92 oct. on top at $2.40. People see the price on top and think its the 87 which is usually on top as its generally the cheapist but it ain't. Most people are buying the 87 thinking it is the cheapest and it ain't. Dirty bastards.

Is it the tax that bumps it up so high in vancouver...
I was watching the news, it said a lot of people in BC near the border, are crossing into the states just to save a few bucks on gas.

As far as bush goes. His money coutinues to come from the oil industry. what do you think hes going to continue to do? ^^^^^
Its times like these that i really love my 2.2L s 10. Sure its not quick but im getting around 30mpg. :grinno:

My mom has a friend who owns a gas station. He said over a year ago that they were going to artificially inflate gas prices to close to 2 bucks per gallon to get people riled up, then drop it back to 1.60 or so to make people happy. Note that it was like 1.30 before that, so they would be getting a ~25% increase in price per gallon, but people would be happy to pay it.

It seems to have gotten out of hand, though, and the Gov't is okay with it because they get more taxes per gallon now, and we pay for their gas. When they drop it back to lower levels (assuming they do), I"m still going to be ticked at them. My next car (after my 98 4x4 Blazer dies) is going to be a hybrid Toyota Highlander that gets ~60 miles per gallon. :D

If you think you're gonna save money on a hybrid, all of the cash you save at the pump is going to be lost - and then some when you have to change the battery pack. Hybrids are great in the short term, but after the batteries in it's power pack die, the car has to be disassembled for a major overhaul, and $3k in Li Ion batteries swapped out. Hybrids are far from perfected, IMO. ;)

Shoot I hope so......From what I read it hasn't come close to the peak yet. CNN had some crap about 100 bucks a barrel by the end of 2006 some time back. May have start walking even more than I do now if it doesn't change soon.

$60/tank
$60/week on gas
$240/month
$2880/year on gas alone!!

Stolen gas might become the new underground product.
I could sell it on the black market(aka: my backyard), $1/gallon...and make millions of $$$

The problem is that we (North America) have very little refineing plants. Every thime the govt tries to build on hippies chain themsefls to the ground and say NO U!
I bet if we had two more refineing plants the gas prices would drop very fast, there is alot of oil in NA just no cheap way to make it into petrol.

well if you follow the oil stocks and prices... there is a current surplus in the market... that's why prices are low(er) than normal right now.

i live in midwestern ohio ... gas prices were as high as $2.35/gal for regular... and now we're back down to $1.90's... but it still sucks @ 16mpg... lol ... i love the backup toyota rice

If you think you're gonna save money on a hybrid, all of the cash you save at the pump is going to be lost - and then some when you have to change the battery pack.

Totally wrong. It's got a 10-year warranty on the battery packs. All hybrid components have an 100% 8-year/100,000 mile warranty, but the batteries have 10 years, due to emissions laws. I'm planning to lease or buy it medium-term, then push it back off on 'em before I need batteries, anyway. My dad's the service department manager at a Toyota dealership here in Georgia, and he says it's a great option, but they only have two techs trained to work on them right now, though. So repair may take awhile if it broke down, but he's sending the rest for training if they sell alot more of the hybrids. Right now, only the kooks and tree huggers seem to be buying them (not surprising) - we need more normal early adopters, I guess.

Plus, the Highlander won't really cost any more than a new, similarly-equipped Trailblazer would (~33k price for Highlander, $27k-33k for Trailblazer). I can make any additional upfront cost back in about a year in fuel savings (I put about 200-300 miles a week on my Blazer now), as it gets 300% fuel economy versus the Trailblazer. Plus, it's a car-based vehicle, so no more breaking my teeth on those big Atlanta potholes and metal plates. :D And, I've driven a Prius already (the hybrid Highlanders are not out yet), and the hybrid drive has plenty of power. The Prius was a 4-cylinder, and the new Highlander is to be a hybrid V6, so it'll have even more power. I've never owned a Toyota before (only GM cars/trucks), but unless GM gets on the fuel economy bandwagon, I'll be going Toyota for my next vehicle, it seems. I wish GM made a hybrid Blazer/Trailblazer with that kind of warranty. I hate to buy anything major that came form another country, even if it is assembled in the US from mostly US parts. I assume most of the profit still goes to Japan.

I'm in an antique car club (the AACA (http://www.aaca.org)), so I'm thinking I'll keep my 85 Blazer until it's an antique (only 5 more years) and dump the 98 as soon as I can afford a Highlander (still a PhD student right now). I can't wait to get 60+ MPG.

coryhawkins
04-20-2005, 02:13 PM
Well, typical marketing crap - after research, I see they have finally released EPA mileage estimates for it now... the "60 MPG" crap was a myth, as usual. The numbers as released are 33 city, 28 highway (yes, hybrids get lower MPG on the highway). That's nowhere worth getting a rice burner. :loser:

It was originally supposed to be better than the Prius in MPG and have the power of a V6. They seem to have filled the bill on the last part, but skimped ALOT on the first.

Oh well... I didn't really want one anyway. Looks like no end to my $275 bill per month for gasoline soon.

the mpg are still quite a bit more than any blazer out there.
It'll most likely take 5-10 years before the hybrids become popular and by then gas prices will be at $10/gal or something ridiculous.....
It will definitly be the next car I buy.

tubjub

i don't know if the low numbers shown below are really the reality of a hybrid's fuel mileage... c'mon now guys....

my girlfriend has a '00 4wd blazer, automatic, standard v-6... and it averages between 16-17mpg. if you're nice to it... dips into the lower teens sometimes.

i personally daily drive a 1990 toyota tercel, 5 speed. i AVERAGE mid 30's in town and 40+ on the highway (at legal speeds) it will tickle 40mpg and pass an SUV like nothing (if you run 10 or more over the limit). ... record is 43mpg. it has a 1.5L SOHC carbuerated 4 cylinder... with 78hp... and is ALOT more inspiring to drive than a hybrid. even being so old and decrepid. 60mpg may be a myth to a hybrid, but high 20's to 30's ? i think not... maybe if you ran it foot to the floor all day, like an idiot.

why are the auto manufacturers pushing hybrids when the lower-powered strictly gas powered cars are just as fun to drive, and just as cheap to run, and COST LESS!!!

i don't know about how anybody here feels about diesel, but a good friend of mine owns a TDI VW Golf (diesel) ... has a little 1.9L 4cylinder diesel in it ... its about 100hp and gets 50MPG on the highway!!! and high 30's around town... that's unreal for the torque that it makes... yes diesel may be around $2.50 a gallon, but 500miles on a tank of fuel ? i'd pay it.

tubjub
04-20-2005, 05:58 PM
maybe if the industry put an end to the horsepower race... we'd see cheaper fuel prices, because we wouldn't use as much. in ALL reality... who needs a 300hp pickup truck when 20 or 30 years ago they had more power and got better fuel mileage ? something's wrong here...

AGAIN!

(see below)

and unless you have illegal cashflow... the people who regularly drive their sub 20mpg beasts are crying everytime they fill up... cuz its bullshit. sucking the gas down like its nothing... when a car would get you there just well in most cases. you drive a rice burner regularly and you'll cringe at the thought of firing up your big v-6 or v-8.

again, just my opinion. not trying to start controversy here.

Most of the time, I am not out 4x4ing, and the blazer is just being driven around the city.

Would dropping the skid plates have any noticable effect on gas mileage?

Myself, I am considering this. I also have a Warren Winch on my beast. Dropping the winch, and skid plates would lighten my vehicle by about 100 - 200 LBs? It would be interesting to see if this would show an effect on the gas mileage.

At this time, I am seeing about 400 KMs per fill up, which is about $60.00 CDN.

Regards,
---- Robb ----

Closest gas to my house is 2.48 reg I'm driving local trips avg.about 14-15 mpg daily (when it is warm out) if I'm lucky. (Recent increase after changing plugs)
