Does anyone know where to locate the EGR valve on a 97 Ram 1500 5.9
I was told by someone that it doesn't have one and that dodge quit using them after '94? The parts store will sell one for a 97, so I don't understand how it couldn't have one. Thanks.

Dodge did not use one in 1997 on their 5.9 truck i would be carefull buying one from your supplier you may not be able to return it when you find out your truck is not equipped with one

Yeah, they're out to get your money anyway. Funny thing though, I ended up calling local chrysler garage and they said it was located on the rear of the intake. I haven't had a chance to check, but they were probably blowing in the wind as well.

well depending on who you were talking to at the dealer probably the service writer and generaly they know less about a vehicle than you do so go figure and also could be a mix up about about the year because Dodge did use them on the BR-BE body trucks from 1994-to a certain date of 1996 so could be mistake and if you did have one it would be behind the passenger side of intake

Well I finally got around to checking and I don't see anything there. On the drivers side I found some sort of valve thing with vacuum lines. I think it has something to do with gas vapors, it leads to a canister on the drivers frame rail, and the big line from the canister, coming forward to the firewall is plugged. Does anyone know if it's supposed to be?

I was hoping that it was supposed to be plugged. Guy I work with has a '96 Ram 5.9 His is not plugged. It comes up to the firewall and is completely open. Thanks for the reply.

well it's not completely plugged it is capped with a vented type of cap that looks like a plug at the drivers side by the booster correct

I hope that's what it is. Mine actually at first glance looks like a screwdriver handle?? Does yours look like that?? I had read somewhere that you could plug one of the lines running from some type of canister, not sure if it was the same canister or something different. I thought there was also a charcoal type of emissions canister somewhere, but the one we're talking about is the only one I've found.
