Something Green

Anyone know what type of fluid is green and comes from the driver side rear end of a 2002 chevy cavalier LS? Someone said that it might be HSMO (Hydraulic System Mineral Oil) leaking from the master cylinder? Is this an expensive fix? I just had to dump another 300.00 into this car two weeks back. I noticed a few quarter sized spots in the snow on Monday.

Green? I don't know. Brake fluid is more of a clear, maybe yellowish/brownish color if dirty. Maybe your rear shock is blow out and leaking?

Did research on the net The HSMO is green I think. Just re-did all shocks

Well, then you need to get under the driver side rear and check the brake lines and the wheel cylinder on that brake assembly, look for where it might be leaking, maybe even have someone pump the brakes while you're looking. Pretty simple, but I don't know what else you can do without taking it to a shop. Good luck with it, whatever you end up doing.

Already made shop appointment for it. I will try the home test this weekend. It's not going into the shop till next Friday.

isnt Coolant traditionally green.... i dont think it would be brake fluid, thats more of a clear or yellowish color... which is far from green.
what consistency is the fluid, is it wattery, or is it alittle thicker? what does it smell like.

Yes, regular antifreeze coolant is green. Her car should have red colored Dex-Cool, unless someone switched it over.

id inspect your inner and outter cv boots..

Just a note here. The spots might be caused by salt/water coming of any electroplated surfaces that come in contact with the snow. Copper oxide is green in color too. This is a common thing in some parts.
I've grown accustomed to seeing a bit of green snow when I move my car over snow after it has been sitting in the driveway all night.
I too thought worst case.

Why would it only be on one side then? It looks like when I pulled out of the driveway it dripped as I went also. From the back bumper of the car, it would be in about a foot and from the side rear end in about 6 inches or so. I have Dex Cool in my car which is red. The brake fluid may be green if it's that eco safe stuff. I don't know though. I picked up a spot and it smelled like brake fluid. I looked underneath and did not see any run off or anything. I'm thinking that it could be a shock even though those were just replaced. Our roads are terrible around here. As for cv joints I'm on the second set of those, which were replaced about 6 months ago. The hub assembly and control arm bushings were replaced two weeks ago. The rotors on the car are serviced every year because my dealer says that there is a design flaw which causes unnecessary wear. I ordered my car before it was even available so I have one of the first production cars for the year. As for the fluid it is possible to be the higher end stuff. Here's a link for you guys.

id still check it even if it was replaced 6 months ago
I pulled the axle on my car... put a re-manufatored axle back in and it clicked and was bad... I have a life time warentee so I just brought it back and put the new one in. I think it was the wrong axle for the car tho... stupid candian tire.

are you experiencing any braking problems? .. because if its leaking brake fluid u normally would loose atleast two brakes.

The only brake problem that I have is that the abs light is on along with the traction and service light. The brakes do not sink to the floor, and I can still stop the same as always. It's a lot better now that the abs is disabled. I will have the mechanics look at all of the things that they have recently replaced just to make sure that something is not defective or has loosened up.

Didn't spot any grease, I hope that it is that easy but it never is. I'll find out on Friday.
